Should blizzard do something with the infested Dragoon shrine?

The Zerg will not be getting any tech features. You can expect something like that in the campaign, but as a buildable regular unit that won't happen.

Zerg will definitely have a strong tank like an Immortal, as well as a counter for the hardened shields of the Immortal (besides melee), I am almost sure.

I think it is safe to expect the Zerg had some sort of carapace adaptation to better defend themselves against strong attacks such as the Siege Tank or Reaver.

actually, all you need to counter immortals is units that do less than 10 damage, preferably air units. The best counter against immortals when playing zerg will most likely be zerglings, as soon as they are next to them, they are gonna chew em up faster than they chew up supply depots (and we all know how fat cracklings do that, dont we? :p)

hydralisks, if keeping its good ol´ 10 damage, will also be perfect counters.

If Hydralisks make a comeback of course. I was referring to ranged counters to the Immortals. Hydralisks would be one of them, maybe mutas, and that's about it for ranged. Who knows if there are more? I sure am expecting it.

I used to think that the Terran would feel totally incomplete without their Firebat, and now there is only a slim chance it will get into StarCraft2. The fact is that old units need to go so that new units can come. The Hydralisk was a classic unit and was very symbolic of Zerg, but all the Zerg units were. Blizzard can't keep everything. I wouldn't be surprised if Hydralisks were ditched for another unit.

Hydralisks must return- they are a symbol of Zerg! But that's not the topic.

I don't think it had a reason different that make Protoss unable to produce new Dragoons.

Hydralisks are of the same importance to the Zerg as Reavers were to the Protoss, I think :/

no, much more important. in sc1, when you've won a match with Terran you saw a marine in the background, when you've won with protoss you saw a zealot. But, when you've won with zerg, you didn't see a zergling. you saw a hydralisk.

Hhehehe, that's not really a reason, but I'll just agree with you :D

(Hydras appeared in the cinematics and such)

But in each of the images, it is a lone unit, and I cannot imagine just a single Zerglings sitting there on its own. It makes sense that Marines and Zealots are solitary, but Zerglings always have to be in swarms and a background filled with a whole lot of Zerglings would be too distracting while your trying to read your stats. The would be too much going on if Zerglings were in the background, so it's better if it's just a single Hydralisk.

That's true, but it just displayed some of the most important units in the background.
But I don't now how you guys thinck of this, but I ALWAYS use hydralisks and not always Zerglings. The Hydalisks can be used for so much things, since they are both GTG and GTA firing, and they could morph into lurkers, which were really handy.

The same thing goes for the Marine and Zealot, you always use them, but you can miss the firebat and the reaver if you have to.

I agree that the Hydralisk is a very iconic unit, but I can't imagine a Zerg player never using Zerglings. Just because it was an iconic unit, it doesn't mean that it will automatically be in StarCraft2. It might just end up as the classic and iconic StarCraft1 unit.

    Hehe, nice.

But to prevent this topic from dying, let's first sum things up:
    - if the zerg would use the shrine it would have to be for story purpose only, not for skirmish games.
    - the shrine itself would NOT be able to produce units, only enable them to be produced (like the dark obelisk that doesn't produce dark templars but enables them from being warpe in with another building)
    - maybe it could revive for example a character like daggoth, but there should be something else involved since it was origanally only meant to help the protoss.

But does anyone know if the shrine was built by the protoss? If it was built by the xel' naga it would be much more interesting since it should be compatible with the zerg then. (since the zerg probably absorbed some dna of them in the war with the xel' naga)

This won't be the case. There was a similar issue with the Dark Templar in StarCraft1 when BroodWar was released. Most people believed that the Dark Templar were only linked to the main Protoss fleet through the storyline or plot in the campaign. It was a shock to most, and a lot of people disagreed with it, when the Dark Templar were able to be produced in skirmish maps of StarCraft : BroodWar. The same thing will happen with the Hybrid and Infested Dragoon, if they are both buildable units in the Zerg campaign, simply because it saves Blizzard from having to come up with a brand new unit for Zerg in StarCraft2. I'm not saying that Infested Dragoons will be in StarCraft2 (and I hope that they are not) but if they are, they will most likely be in the skirmish as well. After all, the skirmish is basically an open, multi-player campaign map, without the triggers. There is no reason that if the Infested Dragoon and Hybrid both worked for the Zerg in the campaigns that they will not be in the skirmish games.

@ Forsaken .........jesus christ man ... do you ever think about posts before posting them? seriously, how do the zerg infest machines? thats just ... stupid. They're biological viruses that manipulate dna out of a central intelligence mass , not computer viruses from some hackers basement.. lets get that straight next time.

well, they can still control mechanical things indirectly. If they infest the protoss inside of the dragoon, the protoss could control the dragoon. That's how i would explain it, if they were in the game.

But, i don't think that they will be in skirmish.
Zerg makes all their units with the hatchery/lair/hive (when playing skirmish, cause in the campaign the infested dragoons could be created by infested temples, like infested terrans were created in infested CC), and that's how it always should be. Changing that, making some units trainable in other buildings would just plainly suck. Its Zerg we're talking about after all.

So, the dragoons would have to be created in the hatchery, but, something half mechanical, half biological cant come from an egg, right? Mechanical units cant be trained in hatcheries, but should not either be created in another building (in skirmish, away with the infested Terran ;D banelings are more easily obtained).

Infested CC/Infested Temple should be campaign buildings only.

Infesting a dragoon would work like this.

Zerg find injured zealots (in stasis at the facility probably)
    Zerg infest injured zealots
zerg place infested injured zealots into dragoons

what would be the point of putting him in a dragoon if hes infested? the zerg could make him able to shoot spikes if they just wanted another ranged unit. Also i'm pretty sure an infested zealot would heal his own wounds seeing how hes infested now or would at least heal due to the infestation process, why would a recently infested zealot be horribly injured?
