This isn't really new as Karune stated in Batch 13
I hope they continue the story they started in the Dark Origin episode of BW, were the Xel'naga are trying to create a Protoss/Zerg hybrid.

The Xel'naga should stay in the background for the same reason as many of you have previously mentioned. Xel'naga are too powerful to be a playable race. It's more likely that if they do a fourth race it will be the Hybrid with the Xel'naga using them as puppets to destroy their failed creations.

I could see the Xel'Naga being playable in a secret mission, but I'd rather not have it as one of the main missions. It would be better off as a bonus mission similar to the Cow Level IMO.

I have faith in blizzards art team, that when they are properly shown and perhaps playable, that they will look 10x more mysterious and uber!

    lol faith.

I disagree. it's like Lillith from the TV show Frasier. She was talked about in almost every episode. But never shown. We never saw her once. She was almost a proper character in the show. Like they have her emotions and a way of doing things. All through the they words of the other characters though.

And I think the Xel'naga should be the same. Talked about a lot more but not actually seen. But the fruits of their labour could be shown/felt though. I don't like of the idea with single player computer contrilled races that the player can't ever use. Maybe if something like the DA's mind control is on SC 2 them there's a possibility. But I'm against it.

Maybe it's something expansion pack bound as was said might be the case by a blizzard employee.

@ Jon, you should have never told it was from the same source from the Swarm Guardian. It would have been a lot easier to discard the anonymous email hehe.

If it's true, good news, unique Single Player Coming our way.

  7. I agree completely. I've posted about this before so I won't do it again, but I agree... completely..

    :D

I, do, however, want to have a lot of story/action revolving around the Xel'Naga, but I don't want the mystery of them destroyed.

You misunderstand. It is Samir Duran who is doing these experiments, and the only thing we know about why is that he serves a higher power.. That doesn't necessarily guarantee it being the Xel'Naga

YESSS!!! This is exactly what I'm talking about, and even though I don't watch Frasier much I think I know which "character" you're talking about.

So, Jon.. How about those (possible) spoiler warnings!!!

Out of all the things they could imagine is in the universe, like another race made by the Xel'naga in secret, having a race made entirely out of infested protoss would, to me, be a let down. yes I would like to see some special units, but as the speculation goes for the fourth race (maybe in the expansion) I would rather see something totally new and not a mixture of two we have already seen.

they wouldn't be like infested protoss, remember we share 60% of our DNA with dogs and 33% with dafodils, hybridising zerg and protoss DNA, particulary because they're so different, would create an entirely new creature.

Oh yeah, definitely. Couldn't agree more. Excluding the Xel'Naga altogether would just, well, they'd just be forgotten. A lot of the story's gotta revolve around them, and from the looks of things it will what with them returning and the artefacts, etc, but that can easily be done without the Xel'Naga making too much of a significant appearance.

While we might not be able to trust the source, it's entirely possible that Blizzard could do this anyway.

In Warcraft III, you got to play as naga once or twice, for instance, and twice got to ally with the draenei.

In Q&A 13, Karune said that hybird or xel'naga units would be in the campaign/map editor, and I don't think this contradicts the three race stance; you're not going to see "xel'naga" or "hybrid" in a multiplayer game unless it's a UMS map.

The two different undead factions in Frozen Throne give me hope that we get to play Dominion for some missions. Oh please :)

Perhaps, but in WarCraftIII, the Naga and Draenei weren't enigmatic races concealed in a mystic shroud. They were just other races, like Kobolds, Gnolls, Forest Trolls, Furbolgs, and all the creeps they had. The Xel'Naga aren't like them at all.

Not really. He said that you will see several unique units in the campaign. He said nothing about hybrids or Xel'naga.

He said something about Xel'Naga. Here's the quotes:

Will we be seeing any hybrid units in StarCraft II? (starcraft.org)

We are planning to explore the mysteries surrounding the Xel'naga for the single player campaign. In the campaign you will encounter several unique units that would not otherwise be seen in multiplayer. At this time, you'll just have to wait and see.

I could believe this. They would be like the Naga of the Frozen Throne. A playable race, but not really. I hope we get to play with them a little. That would be really cool. (Seeking revenge on the Zerg= AWESOME)!!

@Kimera: It doesn't say anywhere there's going to be Xel'Naga or hybrid units in the editor. All it says is that there'll be unique units which may or may not be Xel or hybrid, and that the Xel'Naga will be featured significantly in the storyline.

well if you say that Xel Naga race will be palyable, then i say it would be a repitition like other games, ive [;ayed a game[warcraft 3] that there is a race that is playable in the campaign but it is completly similar to its fellow race[like desame units execpt modified in looks] so i suggest that Xel Naga WILL BE UNIQUE,not similar[or very small similarities] with other races...
    hope you consider this!

If there's a fourth race smart enough to mess around with Protoss energy crystals and Zerg DNA to successfully combine two very different spices. They'd be as powerful and Mysterious as the Xel'Naga. Of course I'm just guessing that the Xel'Naga were using Duran.

The universe is big enough that they could have made a third race that none of the other three have encountered. It would be interesting to see what they would come up with seeing how the Protoss and Zerg are so different.

Please don't double post. Posts merged.

I believe that Duran is an agent of the Xel N'aga. He is working for them, that's definite in my agenda.
