The longer this game is delayed, the more expectation it will have and the faster the graphics will become obselete (starcraft ghost? deja vu?...) and im not saying the graphics are bad because there is a lot of effert and hard work going into it which is evident. I think its been too long, starcraft 2 will never amount to 1, not gonna happen)

Oh graphics. Like you really matter.

Hey there Doom, Starcraft, Warcraft 2, and other lovely examples.

starcraft has horrific graphics and is still running strong after 10 years.

Most blizzard games have 'obselete' graphics even at the time of release.

New age gamers make me laugh, even if I'm still young enough to be categorized as one.

    I'll take Doom over Halo.

The first thing I noticed in Gears of War 2?

The nice plot in one of the goriest war games.

I remember when I started playing SC1 for the first time .... 10 years ago. This game was already epic.

SC2 is the same than SC1 but in 3D, and as SC1 has still success SC2 will surely get its success too.

But this will be more success than for SC1 ? It depends ont the gameplay and the graphics.

If Blizzard takes its time again to finalize this game to create a wonderful game SC2 will be an excellent game and from the users like us who will say to everybody "SC2 ruuuuuuuuuuules !!!" (of course we must NOT be disappointed by this game) so the game will get more success.

If SC2 deserves the success, if Blizzard makes a perfect game, so SC2 will be better than SC1.

And it is not as easy as I am talking now.

heres my take on the subject matter:

I thinks sc2 will surpass sc1 in size. sc1, while being epic in many ways, only had 30 missions in total, and broodwar only had 24, but there will be around 30 missions for each race alone in starcraft 2, even if they are expansions we have to wait for :). not only that, but the story will be stellar. we will be able to see what samir duran meant by "even greater race" or "the xel'naga, who forged us all". the cinematics will be blizzards best cinematic sequences to date.

on top of that, i think units have been changed for the best in sc2. dont get me wrong, i loved sc1, but i was never really a fan of some of the protoss designs, or just how they looked on the computer screen. not just protoss but some terran designs i found rather boring to my taste. i liked sc1 for its gameplay mechanics mostly, and some of the art style, but in sc2, everything changed for the best. sc2 looks incredible in my opinion. the successor to the dragoon which is the immortal, now has more "oomph" to its look (and its shields) and the dragoons lesser cousin the stalker, dark and sneaky, has an appropriate look and role in the protoss arsenal.
terran looks even better now, how they divided the role of the wrath into 2 aircraft units, one which also replaces the goliath in a rather complex, and awesome way! though some people may not like the change they made to the terran (mainly the siege tanks, though i think theyre still bad@$$). ill have to play zerg to get a real idea of how they changed, the sc2 zerg still seems a little new to me, no matter how i look at it. i just havent seen zerg used in such a manner that could win games. all i know is that zerg in sc2 will take some getting used to but in the hands of a skilled player zerg would be incredible.

sc2 is supposed to be very scalable, and able to run on wide range of computers. i remember when starcraft 1 came out i told my brother i was gunna buy starcraft for our old computer that wasnt even a pentium at the time, and he looked at me and said "...................it wont run". it took about 2 years before we got a good computer that would run starcraft, it had windows 98 on it and we could run applications like starcraft. now, starcraft 2 supposedly will play on integrated graphics. if you play wow on your computer, youll probably be able to play starcraft 2.

all in all, i think sc2 is going to be huge. not to mention the opportunities blizzard now has for marketing sc2. sc1 wasnt marketed alot, and was slow off the bat but people quickly caught on to the awesomeness. this time around, even people who moved on from playing sc1 10 years ago will squeel in joy when they hear about sc2.

    i cant wait.

Obviously SC2 will be much bigger than SC1, if they never make a Sc3, Sc2 will be played 15+ years afters it's release. I bet.

Its probly going to be like any transition from one game to another just like WC2 to WC3 and Diablo to Diablo 2.

All blizzard has to do is add epic powder when they finish, like they always do and it will be awsome.

  12. I hope they go easy on that powder dust though. That stuff is addictive :) I don't need their games stealing my soul from me.

But still, do you think there will be the same amount of pro-gaming shown in Korea today?

with all the hype and stuff riding around this, assuming that this game doesnt dissapoint im pretty sure SC:II will be THE next pro-gaming experience

  15. Easily. Even if the mechanics aren't what the progamers want, they will move to the newer game because that's where the viewers and supporters are. StarCraft 2 will build upon what StarCraft: Brood War AND WarCraft III: The Frozen Throne achieved so StarCraft 2 will get a majority of the populace from each side. This will easily make it more successful in terms of popularity over StarCraft even if the game itself doesn't.

well youll have to think, what did the koreans find so blindingly brilliant about starcraft that they make it a way of life in korea? well i dont think it was the designs, or the voice acting or anything like that. the 2 factors that drew koreans into esport addiction was the difference between each race, yet being so balanced. another is how fast the games play. comparing sc1 to wc3, wc3 matches took a little longer id say, but starcraft is fast, really fast. games could last only 10 minutes. and from what weve seen, sc2 has both these characteristics :D

whay may detract korean pro gamers from playing this over sc1 is, how much easier it is to play. you can control like 3 times more units at once, and theres new auto-cast features as well as macro features such as rally points set for miners and such. some see sc2 as having a better and more advanced user interface, others say it takes away macro management. although ive heard recently that each race will get a new macro management feature to make the game more appealing to pro gamers.

I agree with everything you said.

Before Starcraft, we had strategy games that had almost no difference between them. These games either have different looking units with similar functions or simply the same units except with different portraits and names etc.

With Starcraft, each race and their tier units had their own specific function working completely differently than other races. In a lot of strategy games we see before SC and till now, you have units that look completely different in different factions, but they are played exactly the same way. SC however, has everything mixed up. There is no "directly proportional building" in each race, Terran Barracks function completely differently to a Protoss Gateway. Nowadays, I can hardly think of any games where each playable faction is 100% different to another.

That being said, I think SC2 has the potential to live up to SC. Though the chances are very little. If the Korean SC proleagues create a SC2 league as well, then SC2 might have a chance.

If you play the game online and talk to people, you will find out its super big with the SC Gamers.

I personally dont care, cuase its 6 years to late in my opinion, but w/e, I want it for the story line :p

  19. Casual Battle.net gamers don't really represent "gosu" devoted Koreans and Korean spectators. That being said, there's really no way StarCraft 2 couldn't achieve the popularity (not innovation) that StarCraft had since even if it only gets half of the StarCraft and WarCraft III players to switch over then it's already on par with the original. That being said, I'm sure it will be even bigger since this time around more casual gamers will play it due to UI features and hype. Just think of all the World Of WarCraft players that will play the game just because it's a Blizzard game and they've never had any interest in an RTS before.

It's hard to say with sequels...certain games do fantastic, and others bomb. Personally I am really rooting for SCII, of course I wouldn't be on this forum if I didn't have that sentiment :)
