where did protoss go wrong in battle report 1?

    This is my first post but here goes nothing....I think that the protoss should have gotten immortals instead of stalkers, put a few caannons by the proxy pylon, and focus on getting a larger army instead of sending in 5 or 6 stalkers at a time verse mauraders.
     
  2. Yeah, having all returning units be in the same tier with mostly the same use would be extremely boring.

    I agree with A milli, but note that the terran player probably would have shifted their strategy.

    Still, the ability to shift strategies would have resulted in a higher quality game.

    Zealot kills Marauder in 9 hits
    Marauder kills Zealot in 11 hits
    Marauders require 25 gas but otherwise cost the same as Zealots, Zealots are melee but can close fast, similar fire rates, Marauder will slow Zealot down

    1 Zealot vs. 1 Marauder will result in the Zealot winning, but be badly wounded

    Stalker kills Marauder in 10 hits
    Marauder kills Stalker in 8 hits
    Stalkers cost about 30% more than Marauders, similar ranges

    3 Stalkers vs. 4 Marauders will lead to the Stalkers being slaughtered, 1 Marauder dead, 1 lightly damaged. Blink may change this though.

    Marauder kills Immortal in 24 hits
    Immortal kills Marauder in 5 hits
    Immortal costs around as much as 3 Marauders, have similar range, fire rates.

    1 Immortal vs. 3 Marauders will result in Immortal and a Marauder dead, 1 badly wounded

    Marauder kills Archon in 26 hits
    Archons kill Marauders in 4 hits
    Archons costs around as much as 3 Marauders, Archons have lower range, but will hit 2-4 Marauders an attack, and is not slowed by Marauder's attack.

    1 Archon vs. 3 Marauders will result in 3 Marauders dead, Archon heavily damaged, but will recover fully in around 3 minutes.

    Colossus kills Marauder in 9 hits
    Marauder kills Colossus in 19 hits
    Marauder costs 1/4 as much as a Colossus, Colossus can hit up to 6-12 units

    No contest, Colossi are not well suited to fighting Marauders

    Conclusion: excluding air units and spellcasters, Archons are the best Protoss counter to Marauders, while Zealots are fairly effective as well.

    If protoss hadn't started teching so early, he could've kept up his zealot assault. It was the only way he was gonna take out those marauders. And not getting blink for those stalkers really hampered their effectiveness. It just seemed like after the initial SCV slaughter, the Protoss got his priorities all mixed up.

    I guess he really didn't think about the expansion base.

    He built a couple colossi that's why he lost....:wacko:

    -Immortals would of helped against those marauders
    -let the Terran build up too much plus he didn't build enough troops

    he got outmassed and he didn't backup his colossus when he should have especially when he was going for the terrans expo. and he didn't expo fast enough himself
