Well remember this hydras have a range of 6 versus the roaches 3 and have the highest damage per second versus air in the game but seriously ya there tier 2 but because of the speed of SC2 hydras being tier 2 isn"t that big of a deal there still the same old hydras.

Hydra are teir 2 now, so its harder to amass them like before. Roaches are now the new early unit that will probably replace them, it attack both ground and air.

In the latest forum Q&A its been hinted at that the Hydraslisk are once again Tier 1.5 instead of 2.5, if so, that would be the third time that they moved the Hydra up and back down.

That would be good, but i still think there will be a problem with the roles of the Hydra and the Roach. Wonder what Blizzard will do about that.

Roaches are probably going back to melee anyway. I highly doubt they will stay like this after the beta.

Then the Zerg will have 3 Melee units, wont that be a bit redundant?

Yes, yes it will. I think the roach will keep it's range. If it moves up the tier though it will need a damage boost since right now it kinda sucks at that.

Roaches are whack though. the balancing issues around them are so complicated. I'm surprised they haven't had this much trouble balancing the immortal too.

Hydras are back to their tier 1.5 roots so I personally think banelings should be put as a tier 2 unit now.

Hydralisks have good DPS, it just isn't great like it used to be (compared to similar units). It has been told to me that they deserve a little bonus vs armored, and it sounds about right to me...

However they are still good DPS, and light anti-air for Zerg. They have good range (with the upgrade), and do support Roaches quite well. They also do good against Zerglings. They just are very light units, they aren't meant to be taking damage. In Starcraft 2 they were a lot tougher.... hence why players seem to be using them less...

I still love em ;). Just my 2cents.

The Roach Wall + Hydra Support is deadly to all races. but hydras alone, not anymore. and yes they are more mid-game AA now

i never see hydras alone these days
always comes in tandem with roaches taking the bulk of the attacks
pretty good tactic for zerg actually. kinda like the seige tank/marine ball steady push for terran

Yeah, I miss my mass hydra push from sc1, but oh well its a different game I suppose. The only problem that I see is unless a zerg player techs straight to lair and is very vulnerable early on then any offense they have is devoid of air protection. If a terran or toss have teched straight up by the time I have a good sized tier 1-1.5 force ready they can easily have air which will kill my assault force.

I understand and agree that while they may kill my attacking force eventually im gonna kill their base, but the perfectionist in me rankles at losing units unnecessarily.

Sorry about the necropost :) <--forum noobie

I've been trying to go Hydras alone and it isn't working out. I guess you really do need Roaches to soak up the damage.

I miss Zergling Hydra ALOT. I think that is why I'm trying to do it so much.

I guess I'll start mixing Roaches in. I just had a fantastic game vs a Protoss player, but lost. Charge Zealots make mincemeat out of Hydralisks, backed by High Templars and Stalkers.

I don't know why I just think mass Hydras should work better ^^.

Oh well I'll do Roach Hydra when I play tonight. See how that goes.
