Crap! I wished I saved my money years ago. I bought the most powerful laptop that was commercially available to the public six years ago. Its still runs REALLY well today, its just that the v-card is outdated (top of the line at the time).

In 2003 I bought an HP pavillion 17 inch widescreen laptop that wasa P4 HT 3.06 ghz with an goforce 5600 128 mb video card and 512 mb of RAM. Its since been upgraded to 2 gb of RAM. For a six year old comp it runs pretty well, but the v card is a POS and cannot be upgraded!! Do you think a six year old 128 mb card could run SC2, maybe on low settings?

Prodigal you sound like your in the same situation I am in. I have a P4 2.8GHz with 2 GB RAM. The only difference is I have a Radeon 9800. I am not sure how our video cards compare but I am pretty sure that my computer will be able to run SC2 on low settings (how well though is another matter).

My running assumption has always been if your computer can run C&C 3 it will be able to run SC2. Blizzard tends to be more efficient with there graphics than other companies and considering C&C 3 is a relatively recent game in the same genre and style as SC2 I would imagine there low ends are going to be very comparable graphics wise. I think SC2 will have a higher top end than C&C 3 but that is irrelevant to the disscussion of what can and can't run SC2.

They didn't make many of this series of comps. It was so over-powered for its time that it would melt down the motherboard!! I had to have the MOBO replaced (under warranty) TWICE, and the CD/DVD rom drive kept breaking down and it was never fully repaired (probably because of over-heating). I think my comp COULD handle SC 2 on low, but wether or not it will overheat and crap out is another story altogether. Time to get a job me thinks... :(

    Btw, check out this baby!!

  4. Those problems are not symptoms of an ultra powerful PC; it's a symptom of bad manufacturing which is very, very common in mass production companies like Dell and HP.

And, for the love of God man, don't buy a Gateway.
