RTS Games these days have too many words in the tooltip. WC3 would be just about right.

I voted for the Colossus, though I can't get the Soul-harvester or something out of my head. It was such a great idea and looked so good. Fitted in with the new dark Protoss theme.

O my mistake, I should have known better to assume such. I still think health would be necessary info from a mouseover of the enemy. But I agree that there shouldn't be to much on the mouseover in tootips. Just enough to be informed for when you forget you just start using the unit.

A tooltip should be as follow

    Unit Name,  Population,  Cost
Tech tree dependancies (if not satisfied)
Max hitpoints, max Shield points (possibly max energy points)
    Strengths, weaknessess
Optional list of abilities and upgrades currently unlocked

When mousing ver the unit itself the HP SP and MP bars should show with icons for any status effects (ensnare, parasite ect.)

That pretty much sums it all up. Also I'd like to add that you should be able to see the tech the enemy is at when you select their unit. As in armor and weapons upgrades.

And I think you should be able to see its bonus dmg vs an unit. Exsample:
    Stalker hp: 80 shield: 120
    Damage 15 (+25 vs mech) Amor: 1

I'd rather not, that way we can learn and through learning comes better appliance of its bonus.

Learn through experience not through mouseover

So I should remember EVERY single aspect of EVERY single unit? Thats at least 60-70 things to remember. Not every player is hardcore and studies up on the game. A great majority of players are casual and only play on weekends.

Perhaps I should have to click an item and have it research itself before being told what it is and what it does.

Whats wrong with having a quick reference on hand? There is nothing wrong with the mouseover info. If you don't want to see it don't mouse over

I'm talking about enemy units again, not upgrades and building your own units that you should be able to see on mouseover, but attack types and armor types of enemy's you should have to click for. Thats all I'm saying.

In a real war you wouldn't know every single aspect of your enemy so you know...

Based on war, closer to the realism side.

Dude, space ships aliens and more aliens, I'm pretty sure the StarCraft universe is no where near realism. Besides they have short range sensors and thats how they learn about the capabilities of the enemy :p.

I think everything should stay as it was in SC. Not the most realistic, but the most simple and obvious sollution. I have never had a problem with that, I don't think it can lead to heavy tatcical disadvantages, since your enemy can do the same on your units.

Uhh, we have space ships right now, aliens are simply other things which are not native to us, also all the units are pretty much imaginable in real life at some point (correct anatomy and stuff, no magic, etc.) but lets stay on topic ;]

Not sure how your post ties in with don's but uhh, we don't need all info given on mouse over. I mean if they did do it I wouldn't care; I'd be with them having it as an option and after I've learned how each unit works quicker than it would usually take I'd turn it off.
Even having a units hp and energy show when the cursor goes over the unit seems weird, as clicking it would make it seem as if you scanned the unit or something.

It's not the most useful. It's got some nice abilities, but it's completely open to Air-to-Air attacks.
