What is your favorite new Protoss unit?

I have a feeling rays and vikings will be evenly matched. Rays are meant for armored units, which the viking is, and vikings are good for aa. However, the protoss units have a lot of life, so you would need to outnumber them to succeed. Also, each colossus has about the same life as a BC, meaning they could do a lot of damage to ground forces and bases before the vikings would kill them off.

 

All the vikings have to do is just go into flight form and the Colossus can't do anything about it. Also the Viking is partially meant to be a main air fighter, so the Warp Rays won't really do much good against a decent swarm of Vikings.

 

But the warprays were build to fight armored units like the viking. And the colossus could act as a meat shield for the warprays. If the warprays and vikings are the same in numbers, the warpray would most likely win because they could destroy them verily quickly.

 

Vikings arent armored units. They're meant to take the place of the Wraith, and it said that the Warp Rays take too long to destroy quick fighters like the Viking. Plus any person who's smart would know to get into flight form and take out the Warp Rays first and not worry about the Colossi that can't hurt you.

 

Vikings aren't armored? They look like that to me. Also, if the protoss player is quick enough, or finds the vikings before he attacks, he could do heavy damage to them while they are transforming into air mode. It seems that the situation would determin how the entire battle would play out.

 

Hm, I think the viking will be a fast-producing and flexible unit, (only disadvantage is, that the starport builds it) so I don't think Warp rays can kill a large group of vikings as fast as the vikings kill them

 

Colossus is imo the coolest protoss unit so far

Collosus is very promising. Although, it'll take a pounding from every imaginable direction, so we'll see how useful it turns out to acctually be.

 

I had to flip a coin to decide between Mothership and Colossus. Big Momma won.

 

Another unit that I really like though is the Stalker. i don't like the units voice, but voices are some of the last things they work on in the game, so it's possibly just a filler voice. Either way, the ability to blink in and out of combat looks so useful, I can't wait to try it. plus, it's Dark Templar

Colossus, definetely. As said before, that war of the worlds vibe makes the protoss seem very bent on destruction and revenge. Plus it makes them more kind of "alien and menacing" looking this time around..

 

Carriers. It's just my nostalgia talking.

 

I have to say Immortals. Not the most powerful unit in the Protoss arsenal, but they look amazing, pack a punch, have cool shields, and have also a very interesting background storywise.
Oh, and did I mention that they look incredibly cool?

 

I agree, lorewise the immortal and colossus are by far the most interesting units. I just love the whole sad story about the living relics that are the immortals, and even though they go into battle proud and headstrong, their numbers are dwindling and they will eventually be lost forever

The colossus must be a damn powerful warmachine that gave the protoss a reason to once lock it away on distant astroids and moons. This story is always epic, that once lost weapons are now awoken and brought back once again as a desperate gambit on a chance for survival. Seen it in a dussins of sci-fi stories and fantasy lore, and it never grows old IMO

By the way, will a phoenix be able to destroy a viking in single combat? How strong will it be? A cross breed between scout and corsairs? Just wondered, because I didn't get the feeling that it was particulary strong against the mutalisks in the introduction video (except the overload ability). Then again, those mutalisks could have been 3/3 and the the phoenix 0/0, since it was just a demonstration and nothings final
