  2. I don't mean to jump on you or anything. I figured you were going from memory that's why I asked. We all make mistakes. The lore of StarCraft is huge and it's impossible for one person to keep everything straight.

Anyways, I just realized that the manual that comes with the digital versions of StarCraft is the Battle Chest manual which has nothing of any use in it. So, I'm going to have to link to another site.

It wouldn't even surprise me if Duran returned to pose as a human again within Raynor's ranks. Why not? Raynor has no familiarity with Duran, wouldn't know him by name or by face unless Zeratul told him, and it's implied at the end of BroodWar that Zeratul tells no one about what he learned about Duran the hybrids. I gather that the cutscene in SC2 where Zeratul sneaks aboard the Hyperion is the first he's told Raynor about the hybrids at all, and probably the first time the two have seen one another in quite a long time. Meanwhile, Duran being back within Terran ranks means he's in position for my sabotage and espionage... the sort we've come to love and expect from him.

In the very first Brood War zerg mission, Duran spoke to Kerrigan in Raynor's presence. Raynor would know what he looks like.

Did Zeratul sneaked into the Hyperion in that cutscene?

But Raynor probably doesn't even remember Duran now that it's been four years since that happened.

What I think will happen in SC2 with Duran is that he will keep on trying to create the Hybrids. Remember the Moebius Foundation? I think Duran created that in order to retrieve his race's artifacts so they could use them.

The one thing I don't understand is why Duran sabotaged the UED's mission. I mean, they practically had Mengsk in their hands and Duran sabotaged them. Then he killed Stukov and wanted to destroy the Psi Disruptor. Why?

"But Raynor probably doesn't even remember Duran now that it's been four years since that happened."

Then he has a terrible memory for faces. I would certainly remember a human-looking servant of Kerrigan. I'd ask questions like "Sarah ... did you infest him? I had hope for you." and she'd probably say "it wasn't me, it was the Overmind." But regardless, there's no way Raynor would forget someone like that.

The Zerg Swarm had to stay alive (and free) for his mission to work. Or maybe he was just following Kerrigan's orders.

My understanding was that the Xel'Naga created both races (Protoss and Zerg) and meant for, eventually, these two races to meet and for the Zerg to consume the Protoss and create a "perfect" race. Purity of form + purity of essense =??? Or maybe to create the Xel'Naga themselves from this fusion. A full circle kinda thing. or maybe something went wrong with this, things often do when humans get involved. But maybe I'm wrong and crazy idk, that's just what I've heard.

If I recall it, Duran started a bad around the 70's or 80's then they became famous and started to rename their group Duran Duran... =)

Seriously, I think the writers are trying to add conspiracy with Duran as a possible leader or prophet of the Xelnaga/Hybrids. It was never cleared as to what are Duran's motives for him to bypass the orders and do his own actions but we do know for certain that He's no more a subordinate of Kerrigan. With all the things going on, I'm guessing that Duran will be plotting to either help 1 faction or cause further chaos and make his own stand along with his new army.

I think in the spirit of mainstream plots Duran isn't with the Xel'Naga but an independant organization that have many artifacts from them, lots of money, works above the law and so on. They're probably powerful psionics as well, maybe a cabal of powerful ghosts, for all we know Duran maybe recruited Kerrigan, and now she's part of that organization in a way. It might explain why Duran was working for the Zerg and why Kerrigan let him, also how Kerrigan knew about the Hybrids.

Duran is a villain. He treased Dugalle and even Kerrigan. To Zeratul he said "I serve a far higher power .... the whole universe will be changed, for ever !" talking about the Hybrids. He used Kerrigan in his interests. He helped her because he had other projects, like taking care of the Hybrids. Once he did he left Kerrigan alone at the very end of Brood War.
He is maybe not the chief of the Hybrids but he serves them. He was an evil character so the Hybrids should be evil too. The question is : are the Hybrids = the Xel'Nagas ? If so the Xel'Nagas are evil.

But ... Duran has a human shape. He is a human. No ? So I am wondering if he would not be a mind controled man. But how is it possible that he was an infested man too ? Maybe a mind-controled infested man ? He got a lot of names in the last millmenium. How can a man live one millenium ? Duran is an "entity" that infest or mind-control organism. Probably a Xel'Naga ...

And don't forget what Zeratul said to Raynor " the Xel'Naga have returned ". Was he talking about the Hybrids ? ?? We don't know yet. Maybe he met the Xel'Naga themselves. Maybe when he just met Duran he concluded the Xel'Naga are back ...

Sorry Soge, but that doesn't make any sense to me.

    1. The Xel'Naga manipulated 2 already existing races in what now are the Zerg and Protoss. That we know for sure.
    2. The Hybrids are a combination of both Zerg and Protoss beings. That we know for sure.
    3. Duran was creating the Hybrids, because he called them his experiments. That we also know for sure.

    So:
    1. The Xel'Naga "created" the two races that would eventually be used to create the Hybrids.
    2. That means that the Hybrids can't be the Xel'Naga.
    3. Seeing that Duran created the Hybrids, (or at least assisted in doing this) I don't see how or why he would be serving his own creation. That's just to weird.

Further, it was the Overmind who betrayed the Xel'Naga, and the Protoss eventually also attacked them. So in all fairness, the Zerg and Protoss are the evil ones. Not the superior race that turned them from tribal idiots and parasites into the highly evolved species they are now. ;)

True. The Xel'Naga created the Zerg and Protoss in helping them in speeding their evolutions up. The Xel'Naga wanted to create a pefect race with the "purity of form" for the Protoss and failed. Afterwards they wanted to created a perfect race with the "purity of essence" for the Zerg ... and failed too. They got hunted by their creations !

I said that according to my 'weird' theory the Xel'Naga are evil if, indeed, the Hybrids are evil. And IF the Xel'Naga = Hybrids. I'd better be wrong in this theory because according to the Protoss History they consider their creators as a peaceful race.

But Duran is trying to fusionate both of the Xel'Nagas' creations to create a PERFECT product. If he succeeds (I suppose he did because many worlds are infested by the Hybrids eggs) I supposed this creation could be a Xel'Naga. But as you say it is impossible because 2 creations of the Xel'Naga can't indeed form the creators themselves. Yes, my theory is weird. :)

Well, it makes some sense. The books say that the Xel'Naga have an incredibly long life span. Still, they need to create some sort of reincarnation of themselves eventually when their lifespan is about near its end. So they always look for two races with these purity aspects and let them naturally merge together. Then they somehow turn into the new incarnation of the Xel'Naga.

So if Duran is with the Xel'Naga, then perhaps he's trying to speed up the merging by genetic manipulation. But that makes little sense, since the incarnations are only supposed to work when the merging occurs naturally. But obviously that was impossible, since they nearly got wiped out.

So maybe Duran is one of the last surviving Xel'Naga, and now sees his chance to try another merge and reincarnation himself and his masters?

Uugh. It's all so vague! And we aren't even taking the artifacts that seem to posses/mind control people yet, or the energy creatures, or what exactly those Moebius guys are doing...

I suggest you read the article that Kimera posted recently. Good speculations there.

Yes, I read it. OMG how much speculations ! The 1st idea is, for me, the most adequate.

Anyway ... I think we'll get very surprised by the scenario. I just hope that the treasons train will not be as easy as the treasons we met in some series like "LOST" or even "PRISON BREAK".

I doubt that Blizzard will make any of their storylines as bad as Prison Break. That would be terrible. xD

I hope so. And with the time they take to finalize their game I am expecting something good ! :)
