The mechanic is an interesting one. I quite like the fact they spawn broodlings. But from whatever source you heard saying: ''Broodlings spawn from each successive hit'' seems false or incorrect. Thats plain stupid, it makes sense to spawn them on the killing blow. Imagine the tactics which could be used.
It would let Zerg do to a similar thing that Protoss did with dropping a Zealot in the middle of a tank blockade, where it caused mad friendly fire.

    Zerg defense buildings

The Zerg do have defensive buildings, buildable from the Queen. People just didnt build them because they wanted to rush, rush, rush, rush...

Add a few lings, and zeals are absolutely destroyed.

My source is myself. I could defeat sizable zealot armies with only lings and sunkerns.

12 zealots could be killed easily with 12 lings and 2-3 sunkerns if you know how to use your lings correctly. Stay within your sunkern's range and do small withdraws if needed(your sunks will still attack while the zeals are catching up with your lings).

thats what i do as well, as long as the lings dont die then you can hold off an sizable army of melee units.

No, all you need to do against comp zerg is build defense until their first attack. Then if you survive (which is a pretty big if apparently) then you attack with your remaining forces.

I'm gonna back EonMaster up on that one. Sunkens with and without ling support are two different animals altogether. A Zerg player dedicated to being defensive can hold off two Toss players with dedicated zealot rushing if he knows what he's doing.

Sunkens are gone though and we have yet to see how effective swarm clutches and shriekers are

there are supposed to do 20 damage and attack as fast as the old spores colonies which would make as good if not better than the sunkens, damage-wise. Health wise however....

If it's normal damage, against large units, it's almost the same damage output as SC1. Against small units though, it would be about double from before.

That damage system has been scrapped for StarCraft2. Instead they have stuff like '+10 vs. Light', etc.

    huh what damage system,
I thought the damage system is kinda like the one in WC3 with certain types of attack do more or less damage depending on armor types.

It is but they are talking about the way attacks work themselves not armor.

In StarCraft1 there were three damage types. Normal dealt 100% damage to everything, explosive dealt 100% damage to large targets and less to medium or small targets and concussive dealt 100% damage to small targets and less to medium and large targets.
This has changed in StarCraft2 and units now have bonuses like '+10 vs. Light' or '+50 vs. Armoured'.
