yah i also use that but it takes a while before they can actually come and help you, this old trees move so slow. i always move them first and station them near the enemy base.

i like the 4 races. this is what i like about warcraft, pretty balance, they all got cool units, abilities, style of playing, and heroes. yah like starcraft. blizzard is the best.

I liked how Blizzard emphasised each race with a certain strength (like Starcrafts Zerg masses, Protoss few but proud, Terran being excellent counter... ers). Orcs were the dominant ground force. Night Elves had insane ranged powers. Undead did well with large masses. Humans were dominant casters.

But somehow the game didn't cling to me and the rare times I play, I find myself being Human. The only race I have trouble against are the Undead. Orcs I get more Sorceresses to Slow because Orc can't dispel anything. Night Elves I emphasize heavy hitting units. Other Humans I play the look and counter-build.
Undead I find are buggers to VS.

haha crypt fiends kick @ss as the undead. i love burrowing them behind where the fight is gonna be, or just outside my base, then right when the enemy army passes by, i unburrow and kill all their casters, then bring my heroes in.

counter for undead using fiends as human- defend ability.

I play Human just because I'm partial to a race that looks like me. Heh.
I bring out the AM as first unit most of the time, with the MK for 1vs1. Pally or the BM second hero.
Gryphon Riders. Like 'em a lot. And Sorcs, too.

i play humans because they have invincible units such as the steam tanks which can destroy air AND effective against enemy structures

Plus the Furbolgs are the best race ever

I play the Night Elves most frequently, followed by Orcs, Undead, and finally the Humans. Why do I play the Night Elves so much? Quite honestly, they just seemed to have a very intriguing history as i read it in the WC3 manual, plus I liked how they changed the elf idea in fantasy realms to something more believable to me. O, and the Demon Hunter helped, but more on him later.

With Night elves, it was more fun to launch sneak attacks with their night invisibility, with ballistas, chimeras (twin headed dragons spewing acid) and later, clubbing the opposition in the ground with Mountain giants. I really loved how the mountain giant is a pretty good unit by itself, but with good support, full upgrades, and a tree in hand (yes, just picks up trees) it'll take a good deal of thrashing to give him the beat down. I also preferred the Night Elf spellcasters over other races, particularly the Druid of The Claw. Not only can he heal your units over a span of a few seconds, but can also join in the fray as a freaking bear and maul like crazy.

Lastly, this might be a bit cheap or cowardly, but hilarious in multi player. At the start of my playing I was a really bad player, and got trounced a lot. But with night elves, i reasoned "well, there are trees, my building are trees..soo...aha! idea!" And so when things looked bad for my side i would go to a far side of the map, and cut down the edge trees to go inside, but not make it so noticeable that opponents would pick up on it quickly. I created a little maze for my main tree and sent him into it to wait. My teammates and I spent about 10 minutes holding our sides from laughter as our opponents, who had trashed talked us to no end, couldn't fathom why i was still alive ^^

As for heroes, it comes close between blade master and Demon Hunter, but the latter wins. I like the idea of the hero, plus immolation is a frequent skill i always get to lvl 3 first. It wasn't until I became a better player that I really learned how to use mana burn effectively, but that just made the hero into a much more deadly machine against spell casters. Evasion was also a good skill I liked, since I have always had the philosophy of agility/speed over brute strength. And finally, if things were in a pinch, I always had the option to transform into a demon of destruction. Good times. Also, his phrases were over the top. Especially the phone call to death :p

Humans - I just love the human units, the heroes especially. I love the MK and Paladin.

I play the naga or the humans but I've realized i'm much more better without a hero at all just lots of units, but I play the creep rebellion race (installer by creep rebellion) on custom maps every once in a while. I don't play well with the undead at all they have a more different massing strategy than zerg in sc bbut orcs and night elves are all right.

It is fully playable in the Frozen Throne Night Elf campaign near the end, and I believe quite a bit in the Human campaign.

That or you make a custom map.

I always play as night elves. They are easy to master compared to other races. -orcs are easy too, but they do not fit my style- And they seem to be slightly more powerfull then the other races. -since the expansion they really have a bigger advantage in late game- And how freaking funny is it to remove al the trees near an enemy base by constantly sending in your keeper of the grove at night. :p

I like playing Night Elves, but the only hero of theirs that appeals to me is the Keeper.

Then trying to get enough lumber is annoying, and Wisps are just really stupid to make to get a decent lumber income.

Then none of their units are really hefty, and of course the ones that are, are late-game.

I play Undead a lot in The Frozen Throne. The Crypt Lord is a beast with a lot of Strength.

Reign of Chaos, I tend to stick with Humans.

Then you were probably playing with a total noob. And about the night elver only having strong units late game: have you never used archers in combination with hold fire and their cloack before? It works great for letting your enemy pass by to just before your base, then when the opponent used his destructive here aoe spells, you unleash the archers. Huge damage guaranteed.

I mean like... bulky units that can actually survive a few scratches.

I know that's one of the things they don't have on purpose, but...

    Ech.

Ah! Like that. Maybe the ancients when lifted up? They can take quite a few hits, especially when eating trees. But if you think about it, no race but the orcs has real early game tank units.
