Warp Ray = Void Ray

Nah, I just reckon it's because it's got so many counters. Anything small an massed would absolutely snap them. However I do agree that they would have to be fairly slow. Not remarkably slow, but still slow. Otherwise players could just mass them, glide over to their opponents base and down all their buildings in no time.

Oh sorry, I forgot to vote: I was actually more curious about the unit itself than its name.

I voted no, because I don't see any connection between the name and the current unit features.

The "Void Ray" would fit for a kind of moving big gun, which technology would be based on annihilating things, and while the unit is somehow a moving gun, its current firing animation is "just" a kind of laser. I don't mean I don't like it, this is just names like "Pulsor", "Solar Rotor", "Triad", "Damocles" or just "Assault frigate" or "Star Drill" or something like that would fit better in my opinion.

The "Void Ray" sounds much more some ability of the nullifier, the Overmind or the science vessel to me.

 

I know you already called attention to the fact that it basically is, but I just wanted to call attention to that fact again.

I see where you're coming from, but doesn't the same really apply to 'Warp Ray' as well? Besides, its attack basically is an ability. It's certainly not like any other type of attack.

Although I agree that 'Warp Ray' sounds better, I reckon 'Void Ray' is a better name.

i thought Warp Ray was just fine, but the name change is ok. to be honest i dont think the name change was needed, but i like the name.

Warp Ray, to me, fit all the the characteristics of a Protoss name perfectly. The name.. The meaning.. They're simple but give a strong vivid image of what it is.

 

With Void Ray I think of the Warp Ray having more Stalker-like features.

Edit: Mind you they DID change the metal for it... more Dark Templar looking now.

 

IMHO 'Void' doesn't fit here - it implies that is DT thing only, while it was fruit of cooperation of both Protoss subraces.

 

But remember it is still a 'Dark' unit.

I didn't like Warp Ray- it sounded like a big laser rifle from a 30's comic. Void Rays have much more of a "Dark" feel the Protoss needs.

i thought the majority of people liked the name Void Ray. I like it.

 

VOID RAY has more of a threatening feel.

Warp Ray sounds like the plastic water gun I bought for my little cousin yesterday.
