Apparently there was a problem with the Roach because, on Twitter, Blizzard just started that they're still working on Roach balance.

 

indeed. I think roach still hasn't got a clear role in the battlefield.. not even the tank's role they keep saying it has.

 

Which is just a poorly chosen role, since Zerg shouldn't be tanking until they get to Ultralisks. Anything that can be quickly produced in large quantities just shouldn't be a tank unit.

 

yes, and it is supposed to have this role cause of its ability to regenerate in a higher rate than the other lings.

but regeneration only works while burried now...! So I think that Roach is a complete failure

 

The Zerg strategy is far more different from the other races ones. The Zerg win the battle because of their huge number. Blizzard should stay focused on this idea. The Ultralisk has the tank role : it is born to subish the damages. Blizzard has not yet defined the role of the Roach. They are now misleaded on this question. I follow what Ronin2011 says on this subject.

I don't know all the fine details of starcraft's gameplay, so I might be getting this wrong, but Zerg don't seem to me like a race that should have any extremes -- no strong tanks, no strong damage dealers, no strong casters. Their strength is versatility, speed and quantity.

Perhaps the roach is intended like this? It's the best tanking option the Zerg have, but it's mediocre as tanking units go. The ultralisk is too far along the tech tree to be your primary tanking unit, so is only present in small numbers, playing a supportive (lesser) role.
