And by the time WotLK comes around they'll have at least another $68 million. But you have to remember that the cost of maintaining the servers is quite high. But they still make ridiculous amounts of money so it really doesn't make a difference.

They aren't going to wait seven years, spending zero money, to buy activision.

Re: VIVENDI AND ACTIVISION TO CREATE ACTIVISION BLIZZARD

WoW made $12 million in sales just on the first day. 9 million more copies have been sold since then. In less than the first year it already had 4 million subscribers, which equates to $60 million each month. The game has been out for 3 years, using a crude model one could thus approximate revenues from the game at around 4 billion.

Now admitedly, there are R&D costs, server expenses, etc, etc... but the fact remains that the game has been a huge cash cow, and considering that Blizzard has been making hit games for more than a decade, it's not hard to see how they have both the cash reserves and/or credit to finance a deal like this.

    I really don't trust all that !

Blizzard Entertainment made their games alone, and it seems to me that Activision and Vivendi just want to profit of Blizzard.

Surely Blizzard profits too but normally they had to be separated

According to Blizz FAQ this won't change anything. Not the games, not the development teams, not the release dates, not even the logo on the box. They're still officially named Blizzard Entertainment as a studio. Only big change is that they can be traded publicly under Activision Blizzard.

    Nothing to see here folks.

Something I don't understand : Why are there so many directors and responsibles at Vivendi. It seems that there are maybe 10 directors just for Starcraft 2.
