Ace, Firmlisk ? lol . Why do I have a totally different image of the unit called Firmlisk in my head XD

I don't like the Infestor name. I'm slowly getting used to roach. Corruptor and Infestor is too much alike, with a cool unit like the Corruptor I'm pretty sure they can come up with something better than that.

I like the way Zerg unit name's describes what they are, and not what it does:
Roach,Ultralisk, Queen, Baneling, Scourge, Guardian, Zergling, Hydralisk, names that define the unit.
Defiler, Corruptor, Infester, Devourer, names that represents action.

I'm not saying they are bad names, just that I like descriptive names over the other. I don't understand why the Zerg race called a strain by their action and not by description. Firebat was not named Flamethrower (which is good example of the easy way out of naming the unit with the action it does, same for Reapers not being called Jumpers or Jetpack Guy).

I know that finding names is a hard job, I fall prey to this on each starting RPG and they ask THE dreaded question NAME?: _ _ _ _ _ _

I trust in Blizzard that they will choose right and even if the name displeases me, I will get used to it (just like I got used to Defiler) to a point were I love this unit's name now (after 10 years).

you have to relize that most zerg names would be made by the terrans that first encountered them, zergling is awesome for its simplestity, really something a "rim world yokel" would call it.

    Well I thought about that.

A Zebras was named this way because he could not tell his own name, if he gave himself one. The Zebra does not call Zebra because we call him that.

Zerg being a hive mind controlled by the Overmind is a most intelligent race, which is able to name his own creation. The only thing that puzzles me is how the Terran knew the names Zerg are using for their units. I'm pretty sure that the Confederacy sat down and chatted about the swarm's name whit the Overmind over a cup of coffee.

Maybe the Protoss knew it already because of their psychic’s power and told the Terrans... Something strange in that too.

For game simplicity, they did not want Terrans Protoss and Zerg to all call themselves with the right names. Instead of having 3 names per unit.

There is a hint that some terran marines does not know the term zegling because they call them critters... then again, it's more a taunt then real ignorance IMO.

Swarm, the unit. I don't think "swarm" really fits to an unit since the name "swarm" mostly is used as reference to the whole zerg swarm, could be confusing.

No, swarm is the unit that is created by the attack of the swarm guardian or is spawned by destroyed zerg buildings. Similar to broodlings but only lasting some seconds.

they are called Swarm or Broodlings, i tend to call them Broodlings, just because they are as pathetic as the Broodlings are in SC.

notice how all the new ones are just too simple minded, its like the people who named the mhad one day and used a thesarus to find somewhat "cool" derivatives for units?
    - colossus? Protoss now apparently names their units after an ancient Greek monster? lets GGGet Reeeal!
Why would they change the names of the classic units.

Roaches need a completely different name in my opinion, roach just doesn't sound right.

It just doesn't sound zergy enough to me, 'roach' just doesn't seem to fit when you compare with the rest of the zerg strains, i thought it was just a working name but it never changed.

  17. I didn't like it at first but now it's kind of grown on me and I now believe that it fits the unit more than anything else I can think of. Often times, you have to warm up to the names. I mean, I can't imagine anyone instantly fell in love with Scout, Carrier, or Lurker. They all feel so plain and lifeless at first but really fit the unit later on.

Yeah, Roach is good, and makes sense. After all, it's the Terran who'd be naming the Zerg, and if there's just something just sticks around like that, what else are you going to call it? They're not going to be thinking...

"What's an awesome name that ends in -lisk?"

    They'd actually be thinking...

"Holy ****! That thing's like a ****ing cockroach!"

    ...And the rest writes itself.

Funny how the ultra looks like a roach (sc1), and is pretty tough to kill.

I think the name is very fitting, and I agree with Itza.
