yes it's hard to judge power because these are just demos to show the new units. There is no reason to doubt that they will make eveything as balanced as possible.

It was just a demonstration of the power. If the Thor could do that we'd all be in some serious trouble.

    SHOW ME SOME ZERG FIREPOWER!!!!!!!!

Zerg firepower tends to look sick...half their units attacks involve bodily fluids...

    Hydralisk: *SPLORTCH*
Marine: "Ewww, did you just sneeze AND cough on me?"
Hydralisk: "No, I just liquified the left half of your body."
    Marine: "Oh...."

Demo units are always over powered. Now, if we saw that in an actual game between two people then yes, we would be in trouble.

If you've ever played Dawn of War, you would want the Thor more like the Baneblade. attackwise

Thats pretty amasing. Altough, the units aint as "unic" as in starcraft. Starcraft got a totally different feeling to it. The Siege Tank, the Collossus, Ghosts, they are all really special. The units of DoW havent that same unit "feeling".

-And I hate how you collect money. Annoying with the flags...

actually, if the Thor would do that kind of damage it would be totally fair. I mean, it cant me transported by dropships, its slower than my pet hamster that does not actually exist and its turning speed is really lame. And, the special attack either cost almost all the mana, or have a crazy cooldown.

@Gasmaskguy , Ummm... that would be the idea.

Although I respect your opinion, please review the basic game mechanics of StarCraft and possibly read a few other threads posted by some of the VERY knowledgeable people on this forum that deal with issues of balance before forming your own.

No matter what anyone's opinions are, we can definately say that we say the thor do 1000+ damage with one special ability. If that's the way it is, and it's not beefed up for the demo, then everyone's opinion of balance is irrelevant, and blizzard obviously feels the unit is not distrupting anything.

I've said this before, and I'll say it again, one obscenely powerful unit or ability will not unbalance the game. Balance is a combination of everything, including build speeds, costs, mobility etc.

Balance is not an argument against anything.

I didn't say anything about the unit being obscenely powerful. Other than the fact that being able to destroy a Command Center with one ability would be insane. Even a nuke can't inflict that much damage. Now how does THAT make sense?

The unit was quite obviously beefed up for demo reasons, even without the hefty evidence of them saying so in the video of the demo.

I never said it was imbalanced, I said that he should review basic game mechanics. That, to me, is something everyone who wants to discuss SC2 units with intelligence should do.

all i said is that this "beefed up version" of the Thor must not be "beefed up". It does more damage than a nuke: so? a Thor cost more than a nuke too.

Yes but its not a sacrificial unit.

A nuke is a "waste" of 200 minerals plus gas (can't remember the gas! :p).

A Thor, even though slow-moving, should not have a one-hit-kill attack at such long range on any building. If it were close range, I might understand.

Although it certainly is possible given the Thor's limited mobility for this to be balanced, and I'm not saying its not a valid idea, I just don't see it fitting in the regions of reality.

I think a nuke should be a more powerful attack than any single unit........ I think that's a good example.

oh yes, the nuke IS more powerful too. The fact that the Thor does more damage dosent mean it is more powerful. The area the artillery strike hits is nothing compared to the nukes. its huge.
