That is actually a reasonable sure fire way to remove it. well maybe, who's to say that while making back ups, you won't accidently put it on a back up file.

If you're that paranoid, start from scratch.

I have a physical list of all the programs, pictures, and music that I would keep/re-aquire in the event of a total malfunction of my computer.

Apparently nothing has happened, the only report I found of it doing anything serious was an April Fool's day joke from the Washington Post.

Conficker can affect Windows 7 and Vista, but I don't know if they are inherently better at protecting against it.

so i'm starting to think that somewhere there is a programmer laughing his ass off because he managed to fool a lot of people into thinking it'd do something.

Looks like Conficker is still a threat, or so some thing. The United States Department of Homeland Security released a program to combat Conficker. they have also put a $250,000 reward for who ever programmed Conficker. it also appears to of done something on April fools day. apparently the method of communication it was programmed to do was contact randomly one of 250 websites and be told what to do form it. instead on April fools day the worm changed it's database to 500,000websites and randomly picks 500 of them for communication. they have also concluded the the maker is in Eastern Europe. he had it change with the time zones as they entered April Fools Day. so virus companies and the us government are treating this as a very real threat. if you want to read the full version in edition to my summary you can check here: http://tech.yahoo.com/news/afp/20090402/tc_afp/usitinternetcrimesoftwareconfickermicrosoftlead

I know people who were literally trying to become infected by googling to random sites to learn the virus. None of them could even intentionally get infected. Also, i seriously hope you dont normally get your news from Yahoo. They are as bad as televised media.

Normally I get my information from CNN but my dad emailed that article to me so I put it up here rather then checking CNN. If you'd like I can find one on CNN is you need better or more reliable proof.
