Cuz its splash, artilery > splash.

Warp ray is a capitol ship/building killer, not artilery.

Overall, a colossus will do a crapload of damage vs infantry or any cluster of units for that matter, whereas a warp ray will only be effective vs big things. Dont forget, the colossus does quite a bit of single target damage + its big and fat and 3 legged, very cool indeed, almost as cool as the siege tank.

^ Look at the vid not the concept art. It has four legs.

Not every race needs a siege tank. How about giving them some sort of psionic flak cannon as a new unit? Not useful in every situation but what is?

Protoss don't really need artillery imo. It just doesn't seemed to work with the Protoss. They'll probably call artillery a coward's weapon and stick to their trusty psi blades.

Colossus tored down the vikings with support in Terran mission demo. Clearly, the colossus does extreme damage to ground units and that's why it is weak to antiair also. It also managed to give a thor a red in the same mission too (3 thors and 4 bcs? or 4 thors 3 bcs. Doesn't matter, had heavy power). Doesn't this imply the colossus has really, really strong ground damage?

in sc1 they had reaver and carrier, in sc2 they still have the carrier.

as for the reaver, both warp ray and colossus are new units so you can count them both as reaver replacements. together, they provide enough "artillery" capabilities to replace the reaver
