The Marine Shield

Why not just give them an ability to turn into clones of Chuck Norris?

Wow everyone is off topic. If you read the description of the medic it says they increase the life of marines to 9 seconds lol.
Shields will now increase it to 10 seconds.

 

Marines with shields?...Is it supposed to be an ability?...like the footman? if so thats stupid...marines are strong enough when you have medics in the mix imo..

 

OHHHHHHHH READ the front page and tell me i TOTALLY didnt nail this one, the marines are getting 15HP and armor bonus with the shield upgrade. i consider myself enlightened now..... but really i nailed it dead on...

 

Man Chuck Noris dies in the Ultimate Shodown. Mr. Rogers saves humanity. Although I do think Chuck deserves some sort of an award for killing Indiana Jones and Batman.

 

We now know that the shield upgrade is a 15 HP boost for the marine.

I think Blizzard has heard the SC community's opinion on the shield as much as they need to. Since meaningful discussion has run dry, and most posts now are blatantly off topic, I am locking this thread. Anything else can be continued in the Space Junk section.

a lot of people agree the shield sucks and is stupid. me too. y would u need a shield in the year like 2500 something fighting alien scum. and for what we know it increases the marine's HP. so instead of giving him a shield y not just change his appearance. like cooler better looking armor or something. make him look wimpy without the upgrade, then BOOM 50hp upgrade he gets a new awesome armor

Yeah...we got a REALLY long one which I'm hoping has died by now, but either way, we already had this topic down.

 

umm, I agree with qOcOp. a shield? are you freaking kidding me? that shield probably weights a lot and will hinder the marine. I mean, a shield? puck that.
and does a freaking shield raise your freaking hp? i mean when a zealot tears through a marine, he could just hit around the shield. just puck it...

 

the other topic was just the shield this one is talking about adding armor. guess i kinda messed up on thread title.

 

I don't see why people are so against it. The power armor they wear augments their strength so it wouldn't weigh them down. The shield attaches to their forearm so they can still use both hands. And the increased HP is a good combination to the old armor upgrades. Together that will make marines much tougher and viable late game units.

Personally if I had the option of fighting (especially in the open) with or without a shield, I'll gladly take it because the more metal between me and the enemy the better.

 

the terrans are just copying the protoss, but they suck at creating force feilds

seriously, why would marines not want to have sheilds. i highly doubt that the upgrade will have any effect on the units speed or damage.

If someone was running at you with a sword wouldn't you want a sheild just incase your bullets dont kill them

 

I think I'm definitely in the minority when I say I absolutely love the shields. I like the way it looks first of all, and secondly I can see clearly how it would be useful in combat. Imagine being a marine in a one on one fight with a zergling, a shield would be damn useful, as would a strong blade/bayonet. Also, it gives the marines better cohesion in group fighting, sort of like a phalanx. I don't think Blizzard is going to cave in to all the complaints about the shield, and they shouldn't. New ideas always get resistance at first, especially good ones.

 

Pros of the shield
-It's that much more metal between you and whats trying to kill you, be it human or alien.
-It's strapped to the arm, so if you're firing your weapon it doesn't interfere, but gives a bit of cover(to your left)
-It will help shield you from heat(explosives)

Cons of the Shield
-It still can possibly get in the way in a bad situation.
-Even with the combat suits, over a long period of time it can take it's toll.


Just off the top of my head(it's late), and yes I'm listing things as if it were the Starcraft Universe.

 

Well nothing is perfect and neither of those cons will have any effect in the actual game.

 

The shield looks awesome in my opinion.
