    Does anyone think that the Archons and Collossus's role are too similiar?
    They both counter small ground units very well and both deal splash damage. (Collossus isn't really a splash damage but its laser goes back and forth etc...) The only difference is that the Archons can attack air units and it's a melee unit while the Collossus has a longer attack range but can't hit air. Something tells me that one of them is going to be a bit overused while the other one is going to be heavily underused depending on which iis actually going to be better in the real game because both seems too similiar.

    Well, from your description I wouldn't say so.

    See, Archons can attack air and ground with splash, close range.
    Colossi can cross cliffs, atk ground with a long-duration heat beam, but can't attack air and can be attacked by air.

    Both have good pros and some pretty bad cons. So I guess none is going to be overused.


    Example : Flying? get an archon.
    Ground? depends.
    If they're lots you're gonna want either an archon or a colossus, but if they're lings you'll often prefer to chose an archon. If they're rines or bats you get a colossus. I think they're nicely balanced out.
    It all depends on speed/ability/skill/range of your enemies.

    i say the more protoss units the better they had good firepower in the first game but i dont think they had enough units with decent firepower

    Not enough firepower? Reavers do 100 damage per hit (More, with the upgrade). Archons do 30 splash damage. Psionic Storm can decimate groups of enemies. The list goes on and on...

    And in Starcraft 2, all of these are back, and the Protoss also have the devastating Mothership, Colossi, and Warp Rays. They've got plenty of firepower.

    It's been confirmed at least 3 units have from protoss have bben taken away : the Carrier, Scout, and Corsair (quite stupid considering it only joined the crew after the expansion, but gets omitted so quickly :( ) ne wayz they claimed even in their unit update infos. (though not in such a direct manner) that the Warp Ray replaces the "venerable" Carriers as the Protoss flagship (<- lot of my frriends and i are qutie disappoitned with this), whilst the phonix replaces the "obsolete" Corsairs and Scouts... hopefully the dark archon too will be making a return this time, and we get at least one more flying unit.. considering all of the flying units introduced so far are pure disappointments.. (at least to me and some other fans)

    ^ We lost the carrier and all they can manage to replace it with is a stupid 12-interceptor dark-templar carrier :(

    But in a more serioust context, it is true that Corsairs shouldn't have been replaced. I really liked them.

    And for the dark archon, we can only hope my friend... we can only hope.

    Reading about the Star Relic makes me wonder what kind of Godlike abilities this game will contain, exactly. As if the mothership wasn't overpowered enough? I guess this game will be pretty fast-paced, if all races gets these kind of insane powers.

    A bit more fast-paced would be ok, but not too much... I don't know, it always seems as if my protosses take 200 years to make 12 lots and 4 goons when the terrans already have siege tanks, vultures and a load of rines/bats/meds... Well, maybe it's just my cannon circular defence too... :)

    You can always speed up the prosess by making a fast expo then warping in 5-6 gateways. That's how the pros do it. BTW what does 12 and 4 dragoons mean? 16 dragoons or a typo?

    What Blizzard is trying to do is to make every single unit overpowered. But in the end, it actually balances out. From what we know about the Protoss, they do seemed very overpowered. From the little info that we learned about the Terrans, we can also conclude that their infantries are going to be even more deadly. (Marines with improved HP + Reapers + Medics anyone???). So once Blizzard finishes showcasing the Terran, I can already imagine the Zerg players complaining that Terran and Protoss are just too damm overpowered. Then finally, the Zerg are showcased and shows their overpowerness. Then finally, people realizes, "Hey, although every race seems overpowered, it is actually going to be pretty balanced." That is how Blizzard is balancing SC2 and I like their way of approach to this.

    yes i agree with ych9 also

    by overpowering everyone, it actually evens out

    I think it is tough making a sequel game without adding any new races / civs. So I think Blizzad is trying to compensate by making the same races very different from SC1 and by adding a bunch of new abilities to make it much more strategic. In SC1 it was easier to predict what would happen just by looking at two armies on the field, but now with all these abilities anything could happen.

    I keep seeing people wining about how they took away the corsair or the carrier or the scout
    WHAT do you guys want... The exact same game just with better graphics? Accept that some things will change!!

    @marine power yeah, typo... i meant 12 lots... :p ~corrected~

    And also... I think Gah is right. But still, I loved the corsair and nothing will ever replace it. Other than a free copy of SC2 :D

    Yeah, about that... Twilight Archon is a mix of 2 Hi-temp, 2 D-temp or 1 of either... So I guess we can say bye bye to dark archon... Unless this one has mind control? >.>

    did this just say that the soul hunter has been scrapped??? I thought they were kinda cool

    Phase Prism is hot......i think blizzard has done a lot work on transporting units, which makes the game pace much more faster.
