The Metal Gear concept is a Bipedal mobile nuklear launch Tank. In the games the point was to optimize the nuklear launch capability with a platform that could fire from everywhere. Metal Gear Rex from Metal Gear Solid even had "stealth" nukes (no "nuklear launch detected").

The shagohod appears in a prequel and lacks the legs, limiting its "attack from anywhere" advantage.

@ Ensomgrav , welcome to the forums. But please do not quote unnecessarily. Trim down the quote to what you actually want to comment on. Quotes shouldn't be any longer than your comments.

Also, regarding the Thor's nuke capabilities. Are we talking about it actually launching from the Thor or is it still just guiding the missile?

alright fair enough . Enough about metal gear. I think it wouldn't be balanced if Thor could shoot nukes. 3 thors, 5 vikings in the air, and 20 marines on the ground. The thors either bombard or nuke the defenders defenses. they hit the main base hard with what ever's left of their nuke capabilities or bombards. Marines go and clean up. Ridiculously powerful. It's enough that ghosts can call down troops and launch nukes.

3 thors + building nukes = huge economy hit

let's look at your scenario against Protoss... it's hardly a instant win solution - every good strategy can be countered with an equally good strategy - it comes down to player skill

The Vikings could be taken out with just a couple well placed Phoenix attacks. The Marines could easily fall to a well placed Planet Cracker. And a dozen Zealots with a few Warp Rays wouldn't have any trouble trashing the Thors. Look at that lineup:

    3 Thor + Nukes + 5 Vikings + 20 Marines
    vs.
    1 Mothership + 2 Phoenix + 3 Warp Ray + 12 Zealots

the Terran army is actually more expensive probably... but still counterable - it just comes down to who uses their units better.... wouldn't be overpowered - Thors wouldn't have Barrage AND Nukes, just Nukes - which have a delay before they hit....

given the thors hit points. the delay wouldnt mean the kind of window of time you had before to find and kill the ghost.

This has all been gone over earlier in the thread.

Given the Thor's inability to be hidden, the opposing player has a lot more time to take it out.

I think that the thor is fine the way it is, but i do think that the terrans need some sort of disable. Now that they don't have lockdown they have nothing, only an AOE defensive shield, which while good, doesnt really compare with the protoss abilites, or what i expect the zerg abilities will be like.

as soon as Zerg are released, I'll do a revised edition of this to include some new ideas I've had, and many of ppl's suggestions in a more streamlined format...

some of the things I plan on including are:

Medic additions allowing them to provide biological and chemical weapons support
Thor refined to have own niche
    Ghost altered for balance
    Dropship alternative: Floating Platform
    Predator alternative: Mantis
    Battlecruiser changes to prevent overlap
Nomad refined to have more cohesive identity

    *Note to self....

    Pick up Zerg infested laundry

Get bug spray (make sure it works for Zerglings)

    Retrieve Psi Emitter

    Kill Nate

... hmm... still need to pick some stuff up at the store...
