They more or less insert their souls, their essence in Stalkers, not their bodies, so it's not the same thing.

Is it possible that the shrine is so complicated that it takes several decades to fabricate one?

Or more possibly could it just be a xel-naga building that does it, and being made by the xel-naga than the protoss wouldnt be able to make another one. This is probably why it is a shrine, if they could just make them when ever they wanted it wouldn't really be a shrine.. well it could be it makes sense I just think it makes more sense for it to be a xel-naga building.

Stalkers are just a totally different matter since they don't use the khala. I bet dark templar have an easier way of inserting their souls into the stalker exoskeleton.

Yeah. Of course, if that was the case the starcraft 2 website wouldn't call the immortals "a dying breed". I'd stick with the fact that they don't understand how the shrine works.
No magic ingredient. SC is science-fiction. :)
Bingo. I think this makes sense as well. Though it raises the question of why the xel'naga made a building with the functionality of attuning protoss souls to machines.
