StarCraft's 2 true opponent is ...

The C&C franchise is down for the count (thank you, EA). DoW2... well, I don't know too much about it, but it sounds fun. But still nowhere near SC2. IMO the biggest threat SC2 has is Broodwars.

 

It doesn't matter which video game was first. DOW is based on tabletop which had the units way before starcraft, so if anyone's copying anything it would be Blizzard

 

i like the whole fighting in a HUGE city that those screen shots show, that would be cool to have in Starcraft 2, fighting in a massive Terran city against zerg with creep running all through the streets and up the sides of buildings. Showing the whole city becoming infested

I'm thinking Red Alert 3 but, you never know will you?

 

I love Dawn of War 2 also, and if I had to choose... I'd probably choose that. But SC2 has an edge, and that's the User created maps. Some of the Total conversions of DoW are amazing, but they take a while to come out... and some aren't even done from the original game and DoW2 was annoucned.

 

Red Alert 3 should be good, they've never done wrong with the red alert series before.
Starcraft 2 will undoubtedly be good.
Dawn of war i havn't seen much of.
So i would say RA3 would be my choice.

 

gonna have to say broodwar, seeing as EVERYONE will be comparing the two, seeing which is more balanced, noob-friendly, more competitive, smoother gameplay, etc. i mean, i guess people will do that with the other games too, but starcraft 2 is a direct continuation of broodwar, so its WAY more obvious to make the connection there.

 

I'm sorry to say EA is developing it.

 

Starcraft BW! The only game that will stay the most known or the 2. most known game!
Its just a question how how the korean people will like Starcraft 2! If they love it, then 2 pawns BW, if they like it, then its 2 = BW!

 

I doubt that StarCraft: BroodWar will be any kind of opponent or threat or anything to StarCraft2. Once StarCraft2 is released, unless it's a complete failure, I very much doubt that much StarCraft1 or BroodWar will be played any more. When WarCraft III was released next to no-one continued playing WarCraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal, so why would after StarCraft2 is released people continue to play StarCraft: BroodWar?

 

Im not talking about more players etc. but how famous it will be!
THe question is: Will starcraft 2 become more famous then BW is/was?!

 

Of course it will. Anyone who has heard or known of StarCraft: BroodWar will know that StarCraft2 is coming out, but games like these are constantly gaining a wider and wider audience. People who never played StarCraft: BroodWar will still get into StarCraft2. It's not as though you've got to be there from the very beginning or else WarCraft's fan base would be getting mighty old now. Newer games, especially sequels, are always more widely known and played than the originals. Take WarCraft for example again. Almost everybody who has a computer knows about World of WarCraft, but how many know anything about WarCraft: Orcs and Humans? Not that many. Not only did it have to build up its own fan base from scratch, unlike World of WarCraft which already had a large fan base and just gained more, but it's much older and there was not such a great focus on things like that back then.

I think SC 2 will be unique. You can say that they took some ideas from other games, you can say that it is similar to the original, but since SC 1 came out, many years went by. The developers have way more experience, they are the best team I can imagine working on SC 2.
No doubt SC 2 will be the greatest hit, when it comes out.
At least for me..

 

your right hunter,in the previous years,
starcraft2 was just nothing but an idea,
they made it have the general level reward system similar to generals zero hour's system's.
also,those previous years had different effects,it was back then that it was almost desame effect with generals zero hour.
now we have changed,
starcraft2 will be unique,ideaistic,strategy and the ultimate one,it will be the years best game.
or maybe evven best game of the decade!

 

I am going for DoW 2 for the simple fact of strategy. SC2 willl requier strategy and stuff but lets face it DoW had Way more in depth systems such as my apsolute favorite the MORALE system that SC2 will never have. In DoW they have optional weapons for almost all units and each weapon had a strength and weakness very equally balanced. The different factions in DoW were very different in the way they advanced and played. For example take the Eldar's tech advancment and the Necrons tech advancment. HUGE difference between the two and each have a huge array of weapons and options and stuff. Along with all of them being different altogether and being perfectly balanced it has (if you buy all expansions and such) 9 different factions. Also you can paint your armies different to personalize them with badges and banners. It has a faction for every persons play style. Even the slow guys who like to take time with their strats have factions designed for them while having a still fair chance and each faction can play several different ways as well. They allow all people to play so no one is left behind like most producers don't look at most people twice.

 

The morale system was great in tabletop game

I regret.

I regret to have voted for DoW 2. No videogame will own SC2, and that's my deep opinion. As a pessimistic person I treased my trust on SC2.

When this future game will come, it will be a phenomenon ! And nothing will prevent me from enjoying with this game !

 

I've played DOW2 and SC2....And I like SC2 better. But I'm still gonna love DOW2.
