Yay, lets send four marines to destroy the enemy. Why don't we just make the drop pods interceptable? And since the nydus worms carry about a dozen zerglings, the drop ships should carry more then four marines.

It was in the game play video... The drop ships dropped off four marines with about five dropships.

HALF was the key word there zerg.  please read everyones posts thoroughly.  If something doesn't makes sense read it again.

I just think that decreased capacity should be a drawback to the increased deployment speed otherwise there would be no reason to carry infantry the hard way which could unbalance things since the ghost is much harder to find than a dropship

Dropship is the convinent way to transport troops around the battlefield, remember Drop ods can only load from the base then send instantly to an area of the map. Drop ships can load troops from anywhere such as tight situations or if you wanna transport your mechs around.

And I did read the post properly. Indigent said he wants the Drop ship to carry more than four infantry units. And I know where he got mixed up as in the video they only dropped 4 Marines each but I think that was simply for cinematic value only. It would be extremely stupid if they could only carry 4 Marines as that'd mean 2 medium units and 1 large which just doesn't work.

ofc it wont just be 4 slotted, that would be plain stupid, anyways

I think drop pods and drop ships will be useful in different situations, for transporting units to the front drop ships is better but to fly into a enemy base to unload units will prop be pretty hard cause they often have alot of AA turrets, using a drop pod would be alot better cause it would go faster (not counting the time for the ghost to get there and sneak in), the drop pod cant be destroyed and it would be much more of a suprise against the enemy

Drop pods could be counted easily too as all structure defenses can detect except for sunkuns. All depends on the Ghost's range but Drop pods will work nice as fast as possible before the enemy has detects everywhere.

What race do you think will feel the effects of Drop pods the most?
I'd say Zerg can counter it the best as theres Overlords everywhere, Lurkers on key points, burrowed units you won't see etc.

Second comes Protoss as they can move the Cannons, have long range killers such as Collosus also they can bring nearby Stalkers fast with blink, Zealots can quickly charge in out of nowhere, warp in units as long as theres pylon power. But for Protoss it would be harder to manage all of this.

Last would be Terran since there primary ground defense structure is Bunkers and they are usually in certain places meaning you could drop on a weak spot, also you would think Siege Tanks would own the units but if they drop next to the Siege Tanks with a mock Drop of cheap marines the splash damage would kill the Tanks which the Marines are hugging. Although they can suffer the most they would be most likely to detect a Ghost coming in with the Sensor Tower.

I have just thought of something, what happens when a drop pod has something in between itself and the ground, will the unit be destroyed? Or something? I'm prety sure you can't stack and move through walls again.

Perhaps the ghost will be able to use the drop opd from a very long range. Perhaps he does not even need sight. Then it perhaps would be able to get drop-pods to islands whitout a ghost at the island

I wouldn't waste minerals like that, drop ships would be more efficient.
