PK blizz has already said the option to give hero class, buy items, etc can be editted into the game.

Of course people are going to ban you if you are going to DL the map or leave during mid game. I ban people all the time especially those people that leave during mid game. And yes, no one is going to wait for 5 mins waiting for someone to DL a DOTA map. Just get it from the official website. It's that simple.

DOTA is suppose to be a team game that usually lasts around 30-45 min. It totally ruins the whole game if some idiot decides to leave during mid game. It's just like playing SC and your allies decide to leave during half way through the game. Why join in the first place right?

So what if people take it seriously. Everyone has different taste of games. I also find it ridiculous too that a majority of my friends in real life brought WC3 just to play DOTA. But that's how it works. I can clearly tell you that DOTA is more popular then WC3 ladder games. Just go to the internet cafe and find out. Most of the people loading up WC3 are gonna play DOTA.

I could write a 2000 word essay on how much I hate DotA, and I hope it never spawns a StarCraft II counterpart to corrupt the StarCraft II Battle Net.

Every time I try to play DotA, I either get banned right when I join (even if I have downloaded the map) or I am asked to leave during the game. The DotA community is not supportive. They are like an overblown cult that somehow thinks that no new players should start playing it. I don't know why. When it dies out, there will not be a new generation of DotA players because all of the uber-players who started playing and getting good at it when it first came out never embraced the idea that maybe it is a good thing to invite new players into their world and help them learn.

I can't stand that server check thing that they do when you first join, or whatever it is. I always come up as "unknown" and they ban me. I don't know what that is about. I don't lag, and I am a fast learner. I have since given up on trying to play it. It just isn't worth the effort. Too bad that no serious DotA player has the patience and maturity to let new players download the map and get into the game.

It truly is a shame, and I would be very upset if the same thing happened to StarCraft II.

Please dear God do not bring that blight to SC2 UMS games. I hate and despise DotA, not so much for the game, it was fun when it was new, but for the people who play it and because there are so many DotA games created.

I liked DotA alright when it first came out. The game was fun; it wasn't the best custom game there was but it wasn't bad. However, I got tired of it after a while since I am a person who doesn't like to play the same game over and over. Then, it got much worse with things like ban lists and people taking the game way to seriously. It got to the point where a new player would be banned instantly. People didn't want to have any games with newbs. It really annoyed me. Why take a mini game like DotA so seriously that you won't let a new person join and learn the game. I mean, it isn't like DotA is all that complicated in the first place. So I just stopped joining those games.

No problem, there are hundreds of other games to play. Unfortunately for every other game there is at least 1 if not 2 DotA's. It got to the point that I really wished there was a way for me to filter out DotA games.

Now, I know there are a lot of people who love DotA and I know there will be DotA on SC2. It will be amoung the first UMS maps made, right along with a tag game and a tower wars of some sort. I just hope that it isn't as overly popular as it is on WC3 and hopefully people won't take the game so seriously.

Yeah, people are pretty much dicks about letting newbs play. I suppose they would rather...well, on second thought, I have no idea why anyone would ban every single person who wants to download the game. I mean, if the person is downloading the game is going to take 20 minutes, I can understand kicking them, but there isn't any other practical reason...

And yeah, DoTA does get old quick, but its still fun. Except the quake sounds. I HATE the damn quake sounds. "MEGA KILL". NO ONE CARES. NO ONE HAS EVER CARED THAT SOMEONE HAS JUST KILLED A BUNCH OF PEOPLE IN A ROW. EVER. ITS NOT WORTH THE EXTRA DOWNLOAD TIME. PLEASE, the voice is like NAILS on CHALKBOARD.

Well, if you're going to play DotA then you should just get the map from the site first, since it's much faster that way and DLing maps on bnet takes a little more than forever to do. Also sC2's not going to be like WC3 where the actual games using the melee maps are going to be boring. WC3's multiplayer in melee maps sucked imo. But if SC2's going to be anything like SC1, it's going to be a lot more fast paced and competitive than WC3, and it'll be easy to find actual games if that's what you prefer. If you don't like DotA, you don't have to, either. No one's forcing you to play. It's not like Blizzard's going to come out and say, "If you don't play DotA, you have to pay a subscription fee." That's just stupid. At least it'll be there for the people who want to play it.

DoTA changes to much to effectivly get the map from the site. Unless someone downloads every version of DoTA ever, said person WILL have to download it via user, sooner or later.

For those who wishes to download my SC DotA map I can only give you my OLD backup file coz I didn't backed up my edited map of DotA when I formatted my laptop. Although the map is still playable but the triggering sucks. I'll try to reinstall SC:BW and edit the map when I have the time.

Btw, can anyone teach me how to upload on this site? Thanks. ;D

I don't see an effect on me. I don't play DoTA because if I wanted to play a RPG, I'll go play a RPG, and if I wanted to hear 14 year olds argue, I'll go play Halo. If there was SC2 DoTA then there's DoTA, I won't play it, but I don't see why other people who like DoTA shouldn't have it...

"Nonetheless, after chatting it up with our devs, we found out the ability to allow heroes and units to gain experience is built into the Map Editor, though it will not likely be in single player or standard multiplayer. In addition, those units can also be toggled to have the ability to carry an inventory, which is also a characteristic needed in UMS maps such as DotA. With those two additions, we can rest assured that our clever community modders can handle the rest in creating some awesome custom games."

I guess the work arounds won't be needed.

most of the work arounds were annoying
im not a big fan of the rpgs that involved spells
    but
i think that that would be fun to be a zealot that could psi storm, barrier, and cloak
    or a zergling

longlivefenix, you just gave me an idea that will definiatly go into the first starcraft map I make...a zealot that can shapeshift into a pink zergling.

Of *course* they will still be crazy serious. What REALLY matters is if they can still ban you.

Again, I've never played the map, but the Wikipedia article says that it is actually based on the StarCraft map, "Aeon of Strife." Obviously, with WC3's hero system, DotA is more complex, but it is the same basic idea.

I think that, if it makes it to SC2, it will go by "Aeon of Strife" once more, and you won't have any weird problems with the naming.

We'll have 2 wait and see.Editor would have 2 support game mechanics that i definitely don't want 2 see in sc2(heroes,2 much
spells). Not that i have something against spells, but 2 make DotA as complex and balanced as in wc3, starcraft would have 2 be something totally else than what are we used 2(fast paced RTS).I just cant see tanks having auras, etc.
But it has potential...If editor is powerful enough.

But D.O.T.A can get commands and stuff including changing the Terrain for a certain player. Also The name THE NAME!!!! it can't be Defender Of The Ancients or it would be weird. So I assume that anyone who gets SC II can make one and change the name? =D

I just hope the SCII DotA doesn't suck everyone in like it did with Wc3. There are barely any UMS maps besides DotA, which makes me mad. I want to play a variety of maps, not just DoTA and like 1 or 2 TD's.
