Starcraft 2 Release Date?

OMGROFLWTFOVER9000 LEVEL EXCITEMENT. If it truly is a 2008 release I will be so amazed/happy/lovin up Blizzard.

 

It will not be a 2008 release. I can basically guarantee that. We'll be slightly lucky if it comes out next year.

Almost no more advertising on the starcraft2.com website for weeks, it's mostly about WoW and Diablo III now in the main Blizzard site, so either the advertising is just on hold until Christmas, either this is the whole development that may be delayed until... later.

 

In an interview at BlizzCon, Chris Sigaty said there was too much work for the game to come out this year.

A beta test takes 4-6 months to conduct; even if beta were announced at BlizzCon, it couldn't come out this year anyway.

 

Kimera, It is possible that the game could be released say in January, if I am not mistaken i was on the WC3 beta for only a little over 3 months before it was released (may have been less). Jan-Feb 2009 sounds pretty reasonable to me, considering that the multiplayer is almost totally complete, and the single player is likely nearly finished as well (1/3 complete as of a year ago...now that it is a triology with a slightly expanded terran storyline it could be released soon). I would bet that the Terran campaign is nearly 85% complete. We could be seeing the beta in less than a month at this point. We should also except a release within four months.

I heard from gearv0sh that beta won't come out this year (he talked to the Blizz folks while at Blizzcon). He said he expects it will come January or February of 2009. And that's just the beta...we'll have to wait X amount of time from that point until the real deal comes out.

 

lets jsut say sc2 closest release will be June/July. And by closest i mean there would only be a 20% chance that it will be out by June/July.

 

Thats still a hearsay rumor. I think its fair to expect that the beta will be released pretty soon. 1st quarter 2009 for the retail version!

 

People thought it would be released in October 2007 .. then August 2008 ... then December 2008 ...

And, yes, each time "they" were as convinced as you. Let me save you from some heart ache.. IT WON'T HAPPEN!!!

 

Don't tell me, I've been "convinced" each time. Its called Starcraft 2 desperation!

Lets just be optimistic. Worst case scenario the ONLINE beta is only a couple months off!!

Blizzard devs are master at shattering the hopes and dreams of fans with delay after delay. Fortunately they deliver in spades when it comes too the actual games...

 

Simple way out of this. Just expect the worst and then you can never be disappointed.

 

There's no release date for SC2, so I can't see how they can delay it. It's just fans making optimistic assumptions and then getting upset at Blizzard though it's only their own fault for being so naive... Unless you're talking about another Blizzard game, although you didn't specify anything.

 

I still remember the "World Of WarCraft Only" days like I was yesterday Back then I was so angry and sad at Blizzard for (what I thought at the time) was pretty good evidence that they would never go back to their previous universes without charging a monthly fee because of how much money they were making with World Of WarCraft... I can't put into words my elation when I heard about the announcement of StarCraft 2!

 

People, I've just seen a website that states the release date for SC2 Wings of Liberty is the 28th February.

Check gamespot, look for wings of liberty. Click in pre-order, in the left of the screen, it will redirect you to another website that has 02/28/2009 as the release date for Wings of Liberty.

 

One good thing about a game not being released yet, is that the wait can be more fun than actually playing.

In Super Smash Brawl's case, there was a huge hype before the game was even released, youtube was filled with videos of SSBB and hundreds of people lined up at midnight to buy a copy of the game on its released date (I was one of them), after we all get our hands on it, well it's like SSBB didn't even exist anymore, there was hardly any new videos of it on youtube as well.
