Its all up in the air...the multiplayer is highly polished, grandiose Starcraft greatness...I would expect a firm Beta announcement and possibly a release by Blizzcon 2008....although I have also said that about each previous event. :(

Blizz really knows how to dish out the disappointment...like expending resources into pushing the new WoW expansion and D3...booo!!!!

    Honestly

Just face it, SC2 won't be released in our lifetime. But hell, when it does! It'll be the best thing since sliced bread!

I'm the best thing since sliced bread.

So it'll be the best thing since me.

But I'm hoping before 2009 summer.

A releasing in Dec 2008 seems a bit rushed, but given the fact that the game development looks pretty advanced, and that it is in progress for years, that does not sound impossible either.

Keep in mind Blizzard is now owned by Vivendi, a company to whom sales probably make more sense than gameplay, so the times where the developers were able to say "No! It is not totally finished yet!" is probably definitely over with them...

When Starcraft II has been officially announced the very first time? What about the other scheduled releases to come from Blizzard? Dec 08 sounds a correct choice given a marketing schedule...

Blizzard said new footage from the singleplayer campaing will be revealed at the end of the year or begining of 2009... so, it's easy to say SC2 won't be released 'till 2009 ;) i guess April-May will be the date of release.

    @Jisse

Thats the same reasoning I had...six months ago. One of the Vivendi board members even claimed SC2 as being a 2008 holiday release, likely Blizzard is one of the most powerful corporate subsidiaries in the business. They probably would want to give them the time to make their game as profitable as possible, and if it is not finished it cannot be released. Likely we will be playing the multiplayer beta before the end of the year, and that should easily keep us occupied.

  8. It's not an open beta from what they've said. If you didn't go to one of the BlizzCons/WWIs and get a beta key then you most likely won't be in that. But, even those with a beta key may not either because many of those were for World Of WarCraft: Wrath Of The Lich King.

Well, now that Blizzcon 2008 has come and gone, the announcement of the trilogy is ringing in our ears. Earlier this year they said they were ALMOST 1/3 of the way finished with the single player campaign, could this mean that SC2 Terran is nearing completion for retail? Although the beta has not been released yet (it could be a short one) it seems reasonable to expect that SC2 should be released within four months, with likely a Beta announcement coming within the next two weeks. Any thoughts on how the new "trilogy" strategy will impact SC2's release date?

  10. We DEFINATELY won't be getting StarCraft 2 in four months.

.. And, the trilogy will allow us to get more game more quicker :D

no. they told us clearly "they will make bigger single campan for all 3 races" That means we can expect all 3 races up to 2011.

    Beta will be relesed 01.03.2009
Terran campan will be relesed 01.09.2009
Protos campan will be relesed 01.03.2010
Zerg campan will be relsed 01.09.2010

UNIVERSE OF STARCRAFT (LIKE WOW for starcraft) will be relesed 01.09.2009.

If it magically comes out by winter break, I'd be happy. But the chances of that are low. As long as if I can play it during next summer :)

ok, 2 things wrong with your post:

    1. zerg are coming before protoss, this was stated during Blizzcon08. Protoss is last in the 3 to be released.

    2. they wont make Universe of Starcraft. It has already been discussed many times on this forum why this won't happen as long as WoW is as popular as it is.

And I personally think that 6 months between each game is too much optimistic, almost utopia.

They could release a considerably unbalanced game and it would still be great. With the new "monetized" Bnet features, they will likely provide the highest quality balance update support imaginable. RELEASE THE GAME ALREADY BLIZZ, FLAWS AND ALL!!

Blizzard have already said around a year, maybe more between each installment. Factor that into the above time scale and remove the Universe of Starcraft. And that it rather plausible.

That'd be so perfect. Finish high school and be rewarded with the release of StarCraft2. Awesome.
