I get the feeling that Blizz would flat out tell us if the game had 0% chance of release this year. We're all continue to follow it anyways. Even if we didn't; the hype machine would start rolling again next year when a release date is announced. Blizz knows to stfu when it comes to this topic because they are uncertain themselves.

Blizzcon is on October 11th!!? My birthday. Also the perfect time to be playing the BETA!!!!

    Wick,

The Tokyo Game SHow is the big one. I would except for Blizzard to attempt to expand this franchise into Japan. I mean it has pseudo-anime-like characters (mechs, super powered aliens) so I would except them to make a big splash at the biggest show in Tokyo. (Probably one of their most impressive presentations). That could come right before or after the release. All of the editorials I have read have stated the game is incredibly polished and playable, and that manay of the atendees felt that the multiplayer was ready to go (retail level of quality). At this point, I would be happy with a beta by July/August, anything beyond that would be a disappointment.

I doubt they'll be at the Tokyo Game Show. They weren't there last year after many people expected them to be, for whatever reason. Besides the Tokyo Game Show is more console-based. Even drawing a moderate crowd at a PC booth in the TGS is a feat. Besides Blizzard also has a fan base in Japan, it's just overshadowed by Korea's. Also the TGS is from October 9th - 12th, and Blizzcon is on the 11th. There's no way they're going to go to both TGS and Blizzcon.

@bteixeira, I don't see how d3 plays into SC2's release. They are being worked on by two separate teams.

I also don't understand why people are against an earlier release when you know Blizz will fix any probs with patches. If it's such a big deal to you, don't buy it until another 6 months after the release. You'll get the 99.9% polished product in 09; the rest of us will enjoy the 95% version on day one.

If they waited until the multiplayer was perfectly polished, Warcraft 3 would have been released YESTERDAY!!

I will take a flawed multiplayer over banal delays anyways. Even if their are balance or bug exploit issues, it will still be a GREAT game.

I agree with you Prodigal. When was Starcraft balanced? And they have never cared about Warcraft 3, it should first have been released in a year IMO.

Some balance/bug fixes were implemented in SC up until about 2002 or so (major ones). So lets say we want Starcraft II's multiplayer to be that polished...theoretically the balancing would happen faster before they published it, so we are looking at approximately a three year delay.

Starcraft 2 will be released in 2011 if we want a perfectly polished online experience. XD

Yeah, Brood War was really what changed it I think.

But Prodigal Blizzard has also learned something, and when pathing you dont have a full team working on it, so I would think end 2009 if we want a perfect one. But Im hoping for a end 2008 release.

  15. For the most part in Blizzard games, the vast majority of balancing is done (Between retail release, and the "last" patch.) by the expansions for their games. Look at Frozen Throne, Lord of Destruction, and Brood War. Most of the important changes were made by then.

-- Also, it appears that many of you think only balancing is changing in the StarCraft 2 builds at this point. They are definately still working on ideas for units, and arranging units abilities, and what units can and can't do. Just look at the Queen, and what has changed since before WWI.

If you had read many of my posts TF, then you should know, that I know that it isnt easy to balance. But when they go in BETA, wich is were the real balance starts, then normally not many unit / build changes are done. Then its more about atk/armor/etc. etc. . RIght now they are in Alpha, and that were all the build changes are done.

By what we know, both Terran and Toss are practically finished. Zerg has a little more work to do, but its probably 85% complete. That major obstacle is the single player mode, however they should be able to have it out by the end of the year. Activision corporate has already stated in their annual report that Starcraft 2 will be released by the end of the year. If it is delayed it could harm the company at large by decreasing its market value. That market force has an effect on the way the developers would be funded. So if we want more and more Starcraft, we better hope, (pray?) that Starcraft 2 is released by the eend of the year.

  18. Why do you post directly to me when I wasn't posting directly to you?

Also, Blizzard doesn't need Activision's money, or support.

Too bad the only thing the expansions did was nerf old strategies and add new imbalanced ones. I can't believe you really think Brood War and The Frozen THrone magically balanced the game. If anything the basic versions of the game were more focused and uniquely balanced. Both of those expansions only introduced complexities and new HARD counters.

Prodigal I thought everyone knew that Terran was too weak before the expansion.
