Are you kidding?? Early versions of Blizz RTS games are a blast. You get to see the game change and evolve through updates as you play. I would be satisfied with the pre-beta version of the game to be brutally honest. Its not worth waiting for them to do all the patch work internally before release, trust me on this.

I know for a fact that most of us, including me, want the game to be as close to perfect as possible before it's released. If it has a few balance issues, that's fine, they could be patched. If you really wanted a game that's not close to finished on release go play some of EA's games.

I'd be willing to bet it's December 3rd of next year, but I'd wait patiently. Like WIck said, I want SC2 to be perfect before it's released.

Wick why do you care about it having "perfect balance" before its released? That might take until 2011.

I seriously hope you don't get into the SC2 beta, since you would not appreciate it.

Reading is your friend. I never said I wanted perfect balance. I said it should be as balanced as possible. Do you even know what a beta's for? You're not supposed to be in the beta just for fun, a beta's for testing the game balance and giving feedback to developers. I hope on my life you don't get in the beta, as you obviously have no idea what it's even for and you'll just bug the devs to release it when it's not close to finished. Ask anyone; they'll tell you they want a good, polished SC2 when it's released.

Obviously, reading is my nemesis. Balance issues can be pretty subjective. I was part of the Beta's for WC3 and TFT. Its great fun and constructive to analyze balance issues. It makes little sense to wait extra long just to be especially sure the game is as balanced as possible. If that were the case with Starcraft Classic, we would not have seen it until 2000-2001. XD

There is no sense in arguing with this, because the game will not be "as near to perfect as possible" until probably 2010-2012. You want to wait that long, so they can pseudo-nerf Roaches!? XD

Besides, the game is already incredibly polished, and would be great, playable and thrilling if released by the end of the year. If they need to tinker with a couple units balance issues, I think everyone but a small few would actually care to wait an extra six months just so they don't have to suffer at the hands of very minor balance issues/bug fixes.

I know it takes very long to completely balance a game. Just look at Starcraft, it wasn't considered to be fully balanced until some ten or more patches later. When I say "balanced as possible" I mean the game should be at a level where it can be enjoyed without the use of overly cheap tactics in both single and multiplayer. Of course I don't want it to release in 2012 either, but I just want the game to meet Blizzard's standard level of quality on release at the very least.

Ok, I think we are on the same page now. FOr Starcraft's first year Mutalisks were dominant units. The beat everything, Terran did not have a counter that was even vaguely cost effective. That took awhile to get fixed, but it was a balance flaw that was considered "reasonable" at the time the game was released. All I'm saying is that it would not have been worth it to wait an extra year, just for the muta nerf. (the full nerf in original SC was more like two years.)

Yup, at least that got straightened out. I'm looking for reasonable balance, not perfect. Guess I should have made that clearer. :p

Oh ok, sorry about saying "i hope you don't get in the beta". I thought you would be ok with SC2 being delayed until 2011.

I don't know if you guys saw the Starcraft 2 panel at WWI, but when questioned about the progression of the single player campaign, the answer was something like these lines.

The single player campaign is about 1/3 playable right now. I will most probably be able to comment more on the storyline and the way the single player campaign works out for Protoss and Zerg when we get near the beginning of the New Year.

This is not a quote, but a vague answer from my vague memory.

Personally, I don't think that Blizzard would rush 6 months for 2/3 single player campaign to have it going out on December 3rd. My opinion is as good as yours. Anyone think they just won't speak about it until release?

VodKaChill I think they are lying there. And if they have all the ideas out, then it cant take more than 6 months to make all the missions. If they only need to make the maps etc. and have the lore finished, then its not that hard to make IMO. I really think this game will be out before 2009. And they are probably going BETA right now, progamers are already testing the game you know? Check you youtube.com/thetrueblueSC if you didnt

motto dont trust on these sites. EB Games said it would be out the 18 october last year.

You're wrong about the campaigns. Even if they have everything together, which they probably don't, they still have to go through creating all the cinematics, maps, dialogue, voice acting, etc. And they've also said they're still experimenting with the Protoss and Zerg campaign structure, so it won't be done until early next year.

According the the interview, they said they would have an impressive demo of the single player later in the year. No one made any statements wether or not the game would be released by the end of the year, they didn't discredit it, but they didn't announce otherwise. They said they were 1/3 done with the single player, they already have the plot finished, but they need finish some cinematics and level design. The game still can be released by the end of the year, their is simply not any confirmation to the contrary (or in favor of). So yea the developers were very vague, and for all we know he mean't they would demonstrate the game at a gameshow in Japan after its released in the States.

No one needs to have conclusive opinions about the release yet! Either side could be wrong at this point.

Prodigal thank you, this was a much more informative post than Wick´s!
i think if thats the only part they need to do + balance, than the game could be realesed in the end of 2008. But its all about how many they have working on the project, and if there come some problems...

Which interview was that? I couldn't watch the live stream. But if that is true then yes, it's totally possible for a December release. What's this game show in Japan anyways?

Meh. I knew that. But if the interview's true, then I think there could be a chance of a December release. But we'll see it at Blizzcon in any case.
