Starcraft 2 Release Date?

heh i was thinking around like december 15th as a release, just in time for the holidays.

 

Sorry guys, there's no way beta testing will allow for Blizzard to meet that date. No way.

At this point the EARLIEST possible date is somewhere in February of next year unless beta is kicked off at the end of this month at WWI.

However, if beta starts in October like I expect then we won't see the game until March-May.

It could definitely be ready by December 3rd. Starcraft original was an incredibly different game when it was first released, the patches really changed the games balance alot. I would suspect that SC2 will be no different. Its balance will slightly tweaked throughout the years. Even if we got it a little bit earlier, I think most of us would still be rather playing an earlier version of the game, then none at all. I for oen intend to play the beta, which will include an earlier version of the game, and you know what? Its really exciting to play a Blizzard RTS in beta, because you get to watch the game grow and change!!

That could apply to a number of titles. The new Lich King game for WoW? A sequel to Diablo?

I don't know how many of you guys have seen it, but their is a video of SC2's lead developer on Gametrailers. He states the scedule of phased information release for SC2. He claims that the beta will be released before information about the single player, and that their would be a VERY BIG announcement at the Paris expo.

There is no reason to doubt 12/3 release date until after the Paris expo. Their is no evidence to the contrary.

 

Intend to play the beta? Who doesn't? But most of us have no way of getting that privilege
I can imagine how cool it is to see the game improve right before your eyes.

 

I was lucky enough to be chose for the Wc3 and the Frozen Throne betas. Let me tell you it was amazing! Even in the earlier phases the game is really fun, alhtough horribly imbalanced! It was great because like over night the game would transform! I am desperately excited to play beta, and think it will be released within four weeks. My guess based on past info was July by the latest for the beta. Hopefully our dreams will come true during the official announcement this weekend.

I can see it as plausible if the beta test is announced this Friday; the beta test for Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos took six months. But even so, there's no way it could be accurate to the day.

Companies gave StarCraft: Ghost release dates (and people were suckered into pre-ordering it). I don't know where they got that info, either. I suspect, since all three companies have the same date, they might have asked Blizzard for a guess. (This would be good for the retailers, for planning purposes.)

Blizzard "promised" PC Gamer that StarCraft II would be out in the last three months of 2008. However, this was in late 2007 (the holiday edition), more than nine months early. The magazine writer said he wasn't sure if Blizzard could make that "promise". Specifically they had a list of the most wanted games of 2008. Another company had a big game coming out too, but couldn't commit to a 2008 release, so didn't make the list, which suggests (but definitely does not confirm) that Blizzard "committed" to a 2008 release.

Dude there is no way lol i would hope so but blizzard is sooooooo slow releasing games, they almost wait too long in my opinion because ppl get hyped then 4get about it. They always make great games therefore it takes great amounts of time. I personally do not think SC2's time is up. BUT WE ALWAYS CAN HOPE!

Besides, the 41st millenium would be year 40000 and I don't think we'd really be around by then. Or at least not in a way we would recognize.

 

The creators were probably fans of warhammer 40k, which takes place in the 40st millenium or something like that.

 

I'm perfectly willing to wait until May 19th 2009, but any later would be painful. My current system most likely won't be able to run SC2 at a playable frame rate even at the most basic settings, and I'm not upgrading until the beginning of next year at the earliest.

I can vouch for prodigal's claim, I have been to GameStop recently and I was told the realease date was about there.

I think if might be false however, I don't think the game will be ready by then. I would rather it be finished all the way, instead of being realeased early then being patched a lot.
