Starcraft 2 Release Date?

When the countdown stops...beta release information (hopefully within 72 hours!!) and a firm release date. Please Blizzard?!?

Anyone else think it might be "funny" that the countdown stops on April 1st. If this was a fools day joke, I would be so pissed!!

Omg, idiot invasion on these forums lately.

 

This is a grandfathered thread, and is the only acceptable thread about the release date, as it is/was the first. As you can see it has almost 10,000 hits. Mods have already clearly stated that this thread is acceptable. Please discuss the speculation about a possible release date announcement tonight instead.

 

I just want people to stop bumping this thing with irrelevant posts such as: -Omg! So close now.- The reason this has had 10000 hits is because people keep bumping it, and everytime it pops up all forum members nearly get a heart attack because there might be new info. If you really think you can make a solid prediction, then post here or submit an article, whatever you prefer. Just stop spamming here, it drives people mad.

 

I'd just as soon lock this and put up a sticky that states that Blizzard hasn't scheduled a release date, and that baseless speculation on the subject is forbidden.

 

Well seeing as beta is like out before/after BlizzCon...

Christmas, or very early 2010 release?

Um. But discussing the release date is a valid topic. I mean won't we all want to talk about the impending release of SC2 when the release date is announced? Which could occur in two hours? If anything this thread should be stickied, as it is the best historical account of fan expectations of Starcraft 2's release in these forums.

They have already gone on record saying it would be released this year (right?). I'd say SC2 will be released by August at the LATEST. I'd expect June/July based on the advanced state the developers present the current beta in.

 

August SC2 would be the BEST BIRTHDAY GIFT EVER.

But isn't the BlizzCon in August? 22-23rd?

Why do you insist that it would be released after Blizzcon? Lets wait for the end of the countdown. I think Blizz is screwing with our heads by making announcements on April 1st, the cruel tormentors that they are, they would likely release the release date AS WELL as the beta info at the same time.

 

A release date given at the same time as the beta announcement wouldn't be any better than your own guess. Blizzard has absolutely NO IDEA how well the beta will go or how long it will take.

 

Blizzard's public beta have almost always gone for 3-4 months a piece. I've played betas for WC3 and TFT and apparently their other games weren't much different. When its beta its close to retail and even very large changes to the games balance can occur after retail release.

 

You see starcraft 2 has run in 5 years now, more than for example war3, so why shouldnt the beta be longer?

 

WarCraft III's beta lasted five months; true. But, look at the original StarCraft beta. They had to reboot by going back into development. It's pretty obvious that if everything goes well the release date will be about four to six months after the beta start date BUUUUTTTT what if it doesn't go so well? What if it doesn't live up to the hype and they have to go back into development? That's why I said a release date wouldn't be any better than a personal guess because we would guess about four to six months after the release date because of past circumstances so it's most likely that Blizzard will as well. But, nothing isfor certain. So, since we're going on the same basis, neither is superior. They are both equal.
