    The Zerg has always been quite overpowered since SC1 and even in brood war, most of the time I played single player I would put my enemy as zerg cos they are easier to go up against. They lack an extreme long range ground unit while the Terrans had siege tank and the Protoss had Reavers. Guardians can be weak because a psionic storm would send their HP below 10. Ultralisks are just too expensive, compare to a tank. The Zerg really rely a lot on massing zerglings and hydralisks to win.

    Also Protoss AI are a lot dumber than other AIs so they always "appear" to be overpowered in single player after mid-game. They also struggle when massive swarms of zerg comes into their base unless they have lots of high templars ready to launch multiple psionic storms.

    The game's story says Zerg is the most powerful. Both the end of SC1 original and Brood War showed us that the zerg won. End of SC1, even though the overmind is dead, the remaining zerg on Aiur has already extinguished 90% of the protoss population and has no trouble at all at eradicting/assimilating them. And in brood war well obviously the zerg had won.

    Hi, im new to this forum and i would like to say hi. and ask some questions that have been on my mind.
    Do you think that blizzard will make the game rock paper sizors? so the terran beat the protoss but then the zerg beat the terran and then the protoss beat the zerg? or will they do it so each race is equally matched? And will they make it like COH where once sides can mass for cheep but then are weak, but then some other side will be able to make strong units but then they cost alot?

    Obviously they will make them as balanced as possible. And you basically just described Zerg vs Protoss.

    Welcome :)

    As for the topic, it is impossible to have a perfectly balanced game, but I'm sure Blizzard will do a great job in that 1 race won't have a gamebreaking advantage compared to another one. That means, all races will basically have equal chances against another one. Therefore, Blizzard is going to balance the game based on all 3 races to equate a balanced formula instead of the Zerg > Protoss, Protoss > Terran, Terran > Zerg formula.

    As for your question on the strong but cost alot, and weak but cheap, Protoss and Zergs are the perfect examples for that.

    Protoss have very strong units and their basic unit the Zealots have basically 3 times the HP of their counterparts. Most of their units have double to triple the HP compared to their counterparts equalivent. But that comes at a price of course.

    Zergs on the other hand are very flexible in that 1 of their structure (hatchery) can build any units provided that you have the buildings required to build that unit. (This is only for SC1. SC2, Zerg remains a mystery but I'm pretty positive that this formula won't change much). Their units are very cheap and they can mass produce fairly easily because each hatchery can have a maximum of 3 larves running around. When all 3 larves are out, you can produce 3 units at once instead of the 1 unit at a time for the Protoss and the Terran, which makes the Zerg a massable race.

    yah, BUT in sc didnt the zergling cost the same amount as the marine?

    TWO zerglings cost the same as ONE marine in the original.

    Part of what made the original Starcraft so great was that it had three very distinct races, all very well balanced. Starcraft II is going to be a continuation of the same - three dissimilar yet balanced forces. Generally speaking, Zerg are cheap and numerous, Protoss are tough and expensive, and Terran are the middle-of-the-road.
