Hello Muzie, welcome to the forums. You put up some very nice posts with very interesting points.

This is a lovely thread for lowly folks like me watching knowledgeable tech folks carry out meaty discussions, awesome.

And I agree with you guys on the point that, as conservative(relatively) on pushing the graphics as Blizzard is and how they always try to set as low a min req as possible, running SC2 at MAX EVERYTHING on a machine you already have doesn't seem likely. I don't know much about graphics rendering specifically, so I'm just running on good old logic and common sense here, but it just seem a bit absurd.

A big welcome to you to Jewels. I've always meant to post here to welcome you but I never got around to do it. Welcome Jewels, you makes good posts too. :)

You mean the requirements are a bit absurd?

I'm just aiming for people serious about running the game at top quality. Most serious gamers aim for that.

While I don't necessarily categorize myself as such a "serious" gamer, I'm pulling out all the stops for this game.

I wasn't talking about you Jon. I mean the folks who believe that you can run SC2 at max with old machines. I mean OLD machines, not ones that you buy today.

The simplest way is just to right click on My Computer and click Properties. Under the "General" tab, it shows info on "System:," "Registered to:," and "Computer:." Under "Computer:" is where the amount of RAM is listed.

If I get a good computer right now (2.0 GHZ Processor, 2GB RAM, 320GB HD) it'll cost me 799 from Dell. All I'd have to do is go out and get a 512MB video card and I'd be set... I need a new computer sometime soon anyways.

But I'd save a ton more money if I upgrade my existing.. just get 2 sticks of 1GB ram and a video card and I'm basically set...

    Exactly.

We've already seen the preliminaries coming out of Blizzard (Q&A 13) stating that they expect a 128 MB card requirement.

So you should at least get that. Just make sure if you're buying a laptop that those video cards will fit. But from the price I'm assuming you're buying a desktop.
