StarCraft 2 Beta Rumors

I wonder how many people have set that party image as desktop image.

OT: Great news. Seems legit so I'm getting my hopes up for a Feb release!

EDIT: Stella is indeed the best beer, I live extremely close to the brewery - I can actually see it outside of my window!
Also, lots of blue activity! It's a good sign.

 

When it comes to Blizzard, often times it's not the strength of a single rumor but the number and timing of them. Right now, there's sooo many rumors and news items coming from various areas of the internet hinting at a beta soon from every angle. That's incredibly similar to how it was with the Diablo 3 announcement and the StarCraft 2 announcement. You know, the one that most people didn't think would happen and Blizzard themselves had denied

For example, I waited anxiously on the forums for months for the announcement of Diablo 3 and many times there were singular, strong rumors which seemed to point towards the announcement. However, it wasn't until there were many smaller rumors happening all at once (like is happening now) that the announcement was given.

This is one of the things I've learned from Blizzard over the years and is the major reason I never got my hopes up before as much as I am now. From what I've experienced in the past, this is the closest to the past announcements that has happened thus far. If you're feeling too cautious to get your hopes up then I understand. But, if you're not worried about disappointment, then I think we have a lot to be excited about!

 

BREAKING NEWS:

SOMEONE *coughdustinbrowdercough* tripped in the server area today...and caused the servers to suffer terrible terrible damage. Beta postponed until further notice. As such SC2 is also delayed.

UPDATE: Once again, SOMEONE tripped in the office area today and inflicted terrible terrible damage to the entire SC2 department...also SC2 data has been lost. SC2 will be delayed until further notice, expect news in another 10 years.

All this hype for one second of video. 'Welcome to Starcraft 2 beta'. What a chance ! It's be for soon.
I loved this moment about Diablo 3 : "Dude, are you filming our design board ? WHAT THE HELL ?!!" LOL !!

One question : When will we get the DEMO of Starcraft 2 ? Now for sure the beta will be for soon. Will the demo be available just before the release of the game or just after the beta ?

 

SOGE As far as I know Blizzard has never released a demo for any of their games, just betas. As for the link Deckard, interesting, I'll let Jon comment on it if he knows anything he can say.

 

In 1998 I played the demo of Starcraft. There were 3 missions where you played the Terran and had to destroy a Zerg invasion. The battlecruiser was called "Magistrate" (you are the magistrate and command the Alpha Squadron) by the Science Vessel. I just replayed the demo now. The sunken colony hit very slow at that time, there was no patch yet.

Just type 'Starcraft demo' on Google and you'll find out links to download it.

 

There's also a Diablo 2 demo IIRC, so I can imagine there will be one for SC2. Now assuming that right after beta ends the game is finalised and released, I would imagine a demo to be released about a month before beta ends - by then most bugs will have been fixed and only a few balance issues would remain, but the jist would be there.

By the way, how long is this beta expected to last?

 

Ok I was wrong on the demo thing (I still don't expect one for Sc2 though...). As for the length of the Beta I am going to guess 3 to 5 months, the game isn't as complex as WoW in terms of the number of things need to be tested, but Blizzard is going to want to fine tune the balance more, so it should be a wash in length times. Though if there is any major problems with Battle.net I could see that throwing a wrench in things.

 

In addition, demos usually come out after the retail is released and contains exclusive campaign content. They may not do the exclusive content this time around given the improved complexity but they'll probably stick to releasing it after release.

 

Yep, that's right. Demo comes after the release of the game and indeed exclusive missions are introduced. There were 3 for Starcraft. You played the confederacy. Maybe for Starcraft 2 demo you'll play with Mengsk's forces.

 

@ Demo thingie - There was a rather long one for WarCraft 3 that was actually part of the story (it detailed how the orcs escaped from the internment camps and stole enough ships to head to Kalimdor).

 

Yup, I played that about two years before I actually bought WarCraft 3. I was young and couldn't afford to buy a computer to play WarCraft 3 enough to get on Battle.net

how long after the beta starts do you think youtube will crash from all of the new videos?

 

Many are suggesting just a few short months Gardian Defender, by the looks of this content. It's all exciting stuff, but I wonder if we will see any changes whether massive or small to the races of starcraft 2 in this beta. There have been so many changes here and there and it seems we know so little of the races as to what mechanics are in and out (at least I do) that all three look like an unbalanced mess. I am definitely going to try to get into the beta action.

There certainly is a lot of hype going on at the moment, I guess time will only tell.

 

Of course it has been confirmed. There's just no data as to when it actually starts.
