Problem is, that doesn't work if you don't have access to the router holding you back. Once you've logged in once, you can play single player in guest mode.

No, don't worry about the tracker, it is defaulting to HTTP to download the patch. This should let you patch, but I'm still working on actually logging in after that.

If you had bittorrent connectivity, it might be a bit faster, but just let HTTP do its job. It should resume where you left off if you exit.

If you are at a school or university, point the admin at this Blizzard article showing what ports need unlocked. If they allow WoW on campus, they should allow StarCraft II.

Whatever you do don't log out Izan! Or you'll have to go all the way back to McD!

Anyone figured out a proxy solution? It is my only hope now, the internet here at Trinity College Dublin is both proxied and has every. single. port. blocked.

Does anyone know which ports we need opening? I might try calling IT and begging.

The thing is, these issues aren't really new or uncommon. If its just a router stopping you, you can change the port forwarding settings, or setup the router to be uPnP.. but in places that are locked down its crap like this that happens. *head + table*

No, it uses Internet Options (which used to be part of IE but are not anymore) for the settings. If you wanted to get unfiltered internet then yes, you would change both. If you don't really have problems browsing, I would disable the proxy forwarding after you are done patching. (and only re-enable when you need to patch).

These proxy's don't stay up forever either, so it could turf your internet connection if you forget its setup that way.

You can always download that patch file that was uploaded earlier in the thread (linked in my first post). So long as the updater keeps loading, it will verify those files after you copy them into your SCII updates folder (which only appears while updating).

All we need for single player at least is to get that battle.net authentication, it should only take a second or so, then we're free.

This is getting really unbearable now, I am actually depressed at the amount of time I have wasted trying to sort this out.. jesus..

Excellent, good sir! 'Cause I would have driven all the way to a mcD or StarBucks to download the patch and I would have closed it! Woulda gotten back and been like NOOOOO !@#$ !!! haha

The only problem I foresee is that the offline mode will only last up to 30 days from what I've read from Blizzard. I really hope they change this method because I don't want to be going out just to be reloading SCII.

I know it says internet required on the front of the box but it's not like we're playing WoW where have to be connected just to play the game. I just want to play the campaign and storyline! I really hope they change this to something more user friendly. They should require that you only have to connect battle.net once to authenticate your cd key and then that CD key is completely tethered to the one blizzard account it was registered to and can't be used with any other key.

I have heard that the offline mode only lasts until you log out of battle.net... then you have to authenticate again. Can someone confirm this?

Also, I hope everyone is joining the hunt for a socks proxy for ProxyCap, it could be our solution.

I had no issues with using offline mode after logging out of battle.net on my buddies PC.
Try finding another proxy :/ They don't stay up forever. Choose one with a nice green bar for connection time.

Perhaps this makes more sense to you than it does to me, but it sounds like there might be a solution in here: http://forums.wow-europe.com/thread.html?topicId=11155684144&sid=1

Yes, most likely. Maybe even port 443 if your lucky. Only ports you can use for proxy are the ones that are open.
