    Sitting in a hotel lobby using their wifi, and yes, the patch works fine. This confirms that the problem is nothing to do with our settings, Blizzard have chosen to use their peer to peer nonsense again for patching SC2, thereby rendering anyone on a uni campus or at work unable to use the software they have paid for.

    ****ing idiots.

    ok dudes, I have been following this topic as a guest trying to figure out the same exact problem with the patch loop error!

    And I finally got mine to launch. What i did was installed it on my Girlfriends laptop, it patched and i copied every single file and went through all the files on my computer and copied in the new patched files....here is a list of changes:

    Battle.net-patch.MPQ in the Battle.net folder

    Downloader & Blizzard Updater Logs in the Logs folder

    WIthin the mods folder --> Core.SC2.MOD
    Backup.MPQ is 76.9MB unpatched and 101MB patched

    inside the Support folder battle.net.dll went from 6.64kb

    unpatched to 15.3 patched
    Blizzard updater went from 3.35MB -->3.37MB
    New text doc called driverinfo was made.
    Error Reporter went from 420kb-->480kb
    File called fmodex_4_28_08.dll went from 928kn-->932kb
    Repair tool went from 2.56MB-->4.12 as well as icon change
    File called RzAPM.DLL changed 19kb-->29kb
    SC2Editor grew .1MB
    SC2switcher shrank 4kb

    Within Versions --> Base15405
    patch.SC2Archive was added
    patch-enUS.SC2Archive was added
    File SC2 grew .2MB

    WIthin versions --> SHaders14513
    Baselinecache is gone

    In SC2 dir
    the Editor went from 365kb-->359kb
    And the StarCraft2 application went from 5.25B-->6.33MB

    Also added Torrents and files, as well as "updates" folder
    that dude a few pages back shared via mediafire.

    And I had to create a shorcut to the SC2 Application to use
    via my desktop....
    Just launched game and watched intro sequence. I will be
    adding said files above to a RAR and uploading it so that i
    can at least help some EN players out!

    Just had to make an account to let ya know what the patch changes and I will be putting up the patched files soon :p they are uploading as i am playing SC2!!!

    WIll post them when I am done!

    I would also like to know the answer to that question, can you play normally after patching on a firewalled connection? It let's me log on to my blizzard account easy enough....

    OH. MY. GOD.

    Just got home, game loads up fine, but cannot connect to battle.net... EVEN BATTLE.NET IS USING SOME RIDICULOUS PORTS. And of course, you have to register on battle.net to even play offline! ABSOLUTELY RETARDED.

    Once again I cannot play this ****ing game. JESUS.

    Okey guys listen... I've just walked to a McDonnalds near my residence and start patching the game straight away... the problem now is that the connection is too slow and estimated time left is around 2 hours... and my battery is not going to long that longer.... :S

    So... guys... we have the problem solve...! (more or less)

    This really is stupid now, been following this thread and trying everything everyone's suggested and nothing works, i take it theres no sign of a patch mirror anywhere yet where we can download straight from the browser without going through this crappy P2P launcher? :/

    3 days and still not able to use what i've paid for.

    Don't even waste your time dude, even if you patch it like I have, and even if you authenticate it on battle.net, apparently it still won't let you play online or offline when you get back to your dorm internet.

    What the hell ports are blizzard using for battle.net?!?!?!

    Ok I cant get this patch either as the apartment building I live in has a internet connection but the landlords have blocked all ports except the HTTP ones im trying to get them to open them or let me get my own connection but what im wondering is, if I manage to get the patch from a mirror site etc will I even be able to log into the game with all those ports blocked? and validate my game so i can play the campaign?

    We currently cannot play StarCraft 2 and that's that, there is no solution, nothing we can do at the moment. Our internet blocks battle.net and Blizzard have made it impossible to play without connecting to battle.net, therefore it is impossible for us to play the game.

    There it is.

    So, I have this same issues that everyone else here seems to be having, stuck behind some kind of firewall or router that stops you from downloading and installing the StarCraft II patch. I have managed to get half way through the issues (yeah, there is a 2nd half of issues) that need to be addressed.

    What this will address: Getting the patch downloaded and installed

    What this won't address: Getting the client authenticated by logging onto battle.net (#$%!)

    I am behind a router that only allows for port 80 access. This method will not work if you have to connect via a firewall.

    My system configuration has me using Windows 7 x64, although this method should work on any windows OS, and possibly MacOS (although I have no clue how to do these things on a Mac).

    Step 1- Open internet options

    Step 2- open the website Hidemyass.com and search through the list of proxies found. In the search list, first choose the country you are in (to get a connection that is closer). For me, I picked the United States.

    Step 2b- MOST IMPORTANT PART. In the Ports box, type in “80”. Do not use any proxy that is not on port 80, or this will not work. Now click “Update results” to get a list of proxies.

    Step 3- Switch back to the internet options window, go to the “connections” tab, and press the “LAN Settings” button near the bottom.

    Step 3b- Make sure that “Automatically detect settings” is disabled. This has been discussed earlier in the thread. Check “Use a proxy server for your LAN … blah blah” Enter the address and port as you have found on hidemyass.com and press okay.

    Step 4- Run StarCraft II, and the patcher program should start and begin updating. If it is slow…

    Step 4b- First, exit the patcher program, then use the StarCraft 2 1.0.0 patch files found earlier in this thread and extract the update folder into the StarCraft II directory (overwrite all partly downloaded files). After you run StarCraft II again, these files will be checked and then StarCraft II will patch.

    This is about as far as I can get you. Attempting to log into the StarCraft II client will not work, and since I cannot find any socks proxies running on port 80 via hidemyass, I can’t try ProxyCap to try and tunnel past any router. On the bright side, if you’ve got a laptop, going to a crappy place like McD’s might not be so bad now, since you’ve hopefully gotten the heavy downloading done somewhere with a faster connection. If you got a desktop... well... foowy....

    Hope this helps someone. I’ll keep working on tunneling so you can log-in and try to get back to you guys.

    I can probably use my dial-up at home (yeah yeah, i know, I'd have it if it was available), but I'm going to try McD's first. Still going to keep trying to get this to work since this laptop probably can't play the game anyway. :p~ My loss will me your gain if I get this working.

    If any of the websites don't load because they are blocked for you.... i honestly don't know what to tell you.

    If there is some kind of proxy we can use to allow battle.net to connect then we're golden, but finding such a proxy.. for free.. is not going to be easy.

    If anyone manages it please let us all know.

    The problem is, to try and use a socks proxy, you need to use a program like ProxyCap. My issue is, finding a socks proxy server on port 80. Finding a socks server is an issue, but finding one on port 80 has been impossible for me. If I manage to find one, I'll let everyone know, and also amend my post with how to configure ProxyCap.

    I got to thinking that port 81 might also work for most, since port 81 allows HTTPS to work. I'll try searching for those too.

    Did the updater appear before, or would it skip it? Keep trying different proxy servers until you find one that works.

    The best way to test it is to see if you can load web pages in your browser (IE or Chrome, Firefox has its own setup). If they fail, you haven't found a good enough proxy.

    In the SCII folder, go into the logs folder and open "launcher.log" in notepad or similar. at the bottom, what does it say?

    EXAMPLE:
    This can provide clues as to whats going on. You can also paste your Downloader.log file.

When I read the message of Ciaran telling that we need the ports open to get into battlenet once we have the patch I realize one thing.... WHAT IF I LEFT OPEN THE SC2 UNTIL I GO TO MY ROOM AND START PLAYING THE CAMPAIGN WITHOUT INTERNET THERE?

    and.... WOHOOOOOO! IT WORKED! I've been playing for 10 minutes the whole campaign without internet.... UNBELIEVABLE!!!! IM PLAYING SC2 2 days after buying it... what a success!!!!

    Do that! If u have any doubts, contact me!
