    Also do not have peerguardian.

I do remember having issues with the WoW installer, and i think going back into msconfig helped. But im on a minimal selective startup and still having issues.

On Blizzard's forum, someone posted that that fixed this problem by booting their system in Safe Mode with Networking, and then ran the game which then patched.

When I was on the phone with Blizzard, this was one of the things they had me try, but when I tried to launch the game, I got an entirely new error stating I did not have a graphics driver... So, who knows. You guys may want to try the safe mode with networking, might work for you... didnt me.

I gave this a try, Same issue as you. Graphics error. I even tried the -opengl shortcut command just in case that could sneak past the error no joy...

I was playing, but All I did uninstall Peerguardian, but that didn't work, so i purged my trash, but the files were still in use, so i restarted and purged the files. Then the downloader worked fine. And they all lived happily ever after =)

Thanks for that :) Still not able to get it going, but starting to think maybe (vista) service pack updates (ive turned off all windows updates for awhile now) may have an effect. Regardless am reinstalling now that ive manually activated my SC2 battle.net account.

Ok I believe that this is a problem with connecting to battle.net

I had a look at the Launcher.log file and came across this:

    12:59:29.0474 Launcher version 2.1.2.1558
12:59:31.0550 Failed to retrieve version information from Battle.net.
12:59:33.2687 Failed to retrieve version information from Battle.net.
12:59:35.4796 Failed to retrieve version information from Battle.net.
12:59:37.6925 Failed to retrieve version information from Battle.net.
12:59:39.9495 Failed to retrieve version information from Battle.net.

Not sure if this helps anyone but atleast we are narrowing down the problem.

    Ahh right, also below -

13:09:58.3044 Failed to retrieve version information from Battle.net.
    13:09:58.3088 Cannot load the page 'http://us.launcher.battle.net/patchnotes/?locale=en-US' (-2146697211)
13:10:12.3021 Time-out while loading patch notes from 'http://us.launcher.battle.net/patchnotes/?locale=en-US'

Seems to be that the updater cannot reach Bnet.... When i reinstalled from safe mode i managed to get to a patching screen, but it was empty and just said play..... So either the program cannot get out or no response from Bnet...

BUT considering so many people are having the issue i tend to think it may be on Bnet side.

But did you manage to get it working without the need to download a patch by installing it in safemode?

This issue has been really annoying me for the last few hours until I caught a break and found something that worked for me. What the issue seems to be for me at least is Internet Explorers proxy settings - I came upon the issue when another program was having a connection issue and investigated how to fix that which in turn resulted in fixing my issues with SC2 updating.

What you need to do is either go into Internet explorer and into internet options or follow the steps below:

    Start > Run> inetcpl.cpl

This will open up your IE Internet options window.

    Select the Connections Tab

    Click LAN Settings

If checked, uncheck proxy server settings

This right here is what I did and my updater worked straight away and I have updated the game and been happily playing albeit only for a few minutes as I wanted to share what worked for me to see if it would help anyone else out.

Please reply back if this fixes your issue.
