It is something like 6112-6119 we need open for bnet.

I don't think I have the energy to play even if it starts working all of a sudden anyway. See you tomorrow for some more frustration guys, I can tell how I'm going to waste my day off..

Okay after ready the forum here http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/109981069?page=3

Has anyone tried to install the game in safe mode on Mac OS X??
    Apprently it works???

    See below post:

    "I got mine working.
I think peerguardian was my problem, but heres my process in case it wasn't...

    Installed in Safemode
It patched in safemode (disk installer locked up at 100%, force quited, didn't seem to matter)

Opened game in normal mode, couldn't connect to battle.net
Realized I had peerguardian installed, and turned it off.
    Now its working."

Hmm, I really don't understand how rerouting to localhost port 1080 (the default socks port) would work without running an actual socks server, but apparently it does work for this person. The setup would be much easier for StarCraft II. I can't test it today myself, but tommorow. If someone wanted to download ProxyCap and simply try defining StarCraft II for all ports forwarding, and a proxy of 127.0.0.1:1080, it wouldn't be hard to figure out on your own (instead of waiting for me to try it tomorrow).

Seriously, if that even works, I will be like *face palm*

Hey guys, I'm currently sitting in my car outside McD using their wifi. Launched sc2 and it immediately started updating without a qualm. It's currently at 47% and I'm getting ready haha.

Seems our problems are definitely caused by either firewall issues or proxy issues.

That list is for WoW ports. What that user is talking about (later in that thread) may be applicable, using a wow tunneling service for StarCraft II.

    StarCraft II Game
    TCP port 1119 to play
UDP port 1119 for in game Voice chat.

    StarCraft II launcher
    TCP port 1119,
TCP prot 1120 to obtain patch information
TCP port 80 to get to the web site for patch notes.

    StarCraft II Downloader
TCP ports 3724, 6881 - 6999 for Peer to Peer

    StarCraft II Patching
    TCP port 80

No clue what EXE's to route all those too.. i'd pray I can just setup this tunneling via Starcraft2.exe and it all magically works... although I somehow doubt that.

I'll contact the guys at wowtunnels to see if they'd be interested in officially supporting StarCraft II tunneling (or allowing me to attempt to make this work). I mean, it'd be new business for them, I'll hope they'd go for it. Their pricing seems really reasonable.

*edit* Oh, I guess they have a free trial. I could give it a go tomorrow to see if it works. 30mins is more then enough time to test it out with StarCraft II.

You can add exceptions in PeerGuardian/PeerBlock (I would hope Windows users are using PeerBlock instead) to get rid of this issue. Its pretty easy to do.

First keep PeerGuardian/PeerBlock running and start StarCraft II. After you fail to log-in again, exit StarCraft II and open your PeerGuardian/PeerBlock history. You will see some Blizzard and Disney (WTF Disney??) IP's and ports. Just right click and choose to "allow permanently." Then you should have no issues leaving it run while playing.. until you need to unblock more ports... which is bound to happen.

Awesome! So I'm going to try what TheXev asked with ProxyCap, and if it doesn't work I can at least head over to McDonalds.

But the way Izan, how do you connect to the wifi at McDonalds? The branch I tried a few days ago says it has free wifi but I've never seen it appear on my iPhone, do they broadcast the network, or do you have to ask for some details or something?

    McDonalds basically.

They might as well put it in the systems requirements.

Leaving soon to go test the proxycap stuff. Got an encouraging email, sounds like wowtunnels will eventually support StarCraft II in its client, but in the mean time I will have to try using their alternate method. They said there is no reason it shouldn't work in the email they sent me. Got some other good answers to questions I had about it last night from them (really speedy responses from the admin). I don't see why I wouldn't have this up and running for people today.

They also got servers everywhere there are b.net servers, they are going to be the best option for this.

You have to open up a web browser and a mcdonalds connect page will pop up. Just select connect to free wifi and you're golden. The wifi speed is pretty decent too.

Well, unfortunately, I'm done. But that doesn’t mean you are!!! My port 22 is locked down(and so is every other port), so that’s it for me… but not YOU!

First go here to see video instructions on how to setup proxycap with WoW, replacing WoW with StarCraft II and instead of specifying ports, you’ll leave it set to “not restricted.” Other than that, it should be the exact same instructions (I’d pray~~~).
So, I would use that server for patching, then pick a local server for play.

I’m a little let down I couldn’t get this to work for myself, but the guys on this network did an awesome job locking stuff down. I’ll keep trying to figure out my own way, but I figure this method should work for the bulk of you.

PS I am starting a thread on wowtunnel's forums to try and figure something out for the rest of you. I'm sure my situation is unique in that SSH is locked down.

So what should we do the ones who have the problem to connect to battlenet? I can play offline but not to battlenet! Any suggestions?

Try the method that is described in that link with the suggestions I made. Only thing I can think of for the time being while I start a thread on WoW tunnels.
