I suppose unlike the arguments for Ranyor's voice or a darker Diablo III atmosphere, this issue doesn't seem to tread on personal opinion. The LAN function wouldn't make game play different for someone who is not interested in it, but it would be quite different for someone who was looking forward to it.

I kind of think that petitions are a waste of time because no party has to do anything because of a petition. I highly doubt they brought Raynors voice actor back because of a petition, actually I'm probably certain about that.

If your really concerned about it then do something besides signing your name on a webpage that you don't like it. Boycott their products, take legal action, write them etc. Although I doubt anyone cares enough to do any of those things.

@ the8thark. Actually, they have shown us a lot more of the dark side of Diablo3 since the petition. As much as it didn't concern me, in my opinion it's fairly safe to say that it would have had a definite influence on the game.

Before the petition they were talking about how they were still working on the artwork. They never said, "This is the final product." Then the petition came out, and it got darker. I call that more of a coincidence then anything.

As for Raynor...I have no answer for that. Unless they say "That petition really changed our mind.." then I'm going to have to hold true on my ground. They have an entire forum of people making 30 threads a day complaining about some aspect of these games, I'm sure they get their feedback from there, mostly. I know i wouldn't go trolling around a petition site to see how many people signed it. Like I said, there is absolutely nothing stopping someone from making a bot and signing that petition over and over and over, or even doing it themselves. So those numbers are more than likely skewed to a large degree. It's not like Blizzard held a conference and said, "While walking out, sign your name on this piece of paper if you want so and so to be changed."

Perhaps, but they don't have to specifically think that it was the petition which changed their minds for it to have had an affect. Blizzard would have been well aware of those petitions, and they do reflect the thoughts of the community to some extent.

Im agreeing with IHG on this one. These petitions do help. Every little voice that reaches blizzard does help. I just dont think its a mature way to do it. I though still udnerstand those people out there who arent part of a community making and signing these petitions. But we, as a community, have much better ways to communicate with blizzard if we want change.
I think that actually we should communicate a bit with the other sites on the topic, and then either write a message to Blizzard or choose not to contact them.

i think the reason lan was removed is because its kinda obsolete... EVERYONE has internet just about. what would be the diffrence in playing on Bnet rather then lan? its the same thing and you can still play with your friends in the same house even...

Not everyone, some 3rd world countries are limited to playing single player and fighting against computers.
As well as any tournament being forced to play custom games over B.Net and because its over B.net even B.Net 2.0 it will lag.

.05 a second even if it dose not seem like much. It makes every action take that much longer to respond and do, making the game play slower, causing problems on a competitive level.

Sounds dumb yes, but any lag is a problem in a tournament that offers money, and if it only applies to one of the players it just screws everything over.

As well as the fact that hackers and pirates will still find a way to play LAN. So basically whats going to happen is Blizzard is short changing the paying customer a feature. Yet the pirates and hackers they are trying to stop are going to get the same game free, with LAN.

Every little bit may help, but there are thousands of threads, I'm sure, on bnet already about this issue. They want to know what people think, it's going to be right there. They really don't have to venture off to some third party, who knows how it's working petition site.

This petition will not sign off on anything. How many petitions are out there, and how many have worked? If they did work, I'd scratch it up to coincidence...not really anything else. Nobody in the history of anything has said those online petitions really helped sway their mind.

You're forgetting that a lot of people on the B.Net forums make threads for the sake of getting signatures, and even make threads just to say how many signatures the petition has. I'd be surprised if the petition originated outside of the one of the B.Net forum members.

However broken the petition function may be, they do roughly show the views of the community, and while it might still just boil down to coincidence, that's not going to stop anyone from trying, not only in consideration of the past strike rate, but simply because it's another way of getting your voice heard.

I'm not saying to stop, I am just saying that it will not change the tide of the battle. You obviously understand the power, or lack there of, these petitions have with the company. It's more of a "Ahh, I feel I've done my part to say my peace" with the person than anything else. That way they can't say, "Damn if only I would have tried." Which isn't bad. But if someone thinks that this petition will solve the problems, they are sorely mistaken.

I guess the same can be said with some people and elections being 'rigged' or what have you :p

No-one expects that simply having the petition will result in LAN being available in StarCraft2. As I said, it's just another way of getting the community's voices heard, and if there was no point in hearing the community's voice, then there'd be no point in fan sites like these, the Battle.Net forums, etc.

I'm not saying that they don't work, but yeah, you can't simply can't assume that something will be changed because there is a petition asking for it to be changed.

I think it's fair to say that the petition alone won't change anything and that Blizzard is probably not even close to the tipping point in terms of changing their minds on this.

Primarily because the community is fairly divided on whether LAN is necessary and without details on B.net 2.0, a lot of people (including myself) are just waiting to hear all the details before making a judgement.

However, if the whole community does indeed backlash against Blizzard because of this, I'm pretty sure that they'd reconsider. Case in point is the art style of SC2 and how the community has influenced it into being less "cartoony". From what I can tell, that just isn't the case right now with LAN.

They are currently adressing the lan thing by replaceing it with something else people just like to freak out about things remeber the game isen"t even out yet.

Most likely it will be something that you have to varify your cd key to play with other people versus simply being able to play without the key but who knows.

Hey, some of you guys might remember me from a while back. Had to leave for various reasons but I sort of returned.

And there's a lot more news about the upcoming Starcraft2, as well!

About the petition, I too would like to vote against Blizzard's idea of taking away LAN. I play frequently with other people, and the LAN is helpful when we can't use the same game ID and it also cuts down lag, although that's not a big problem to me. However, like others stated the petition will probably not work. Blizzard's ussually adament on their decisions, such as Diablo 2's art style... etc...

However, I do trust Blizzard. They will probably create an alternative or supplement Battle.net with more features. They're a great company that makes good games and they wouldn't make such a mistake that would upset so many fans in their final games. Especcially Korea, where LAN is important for many staged game settings.
