You don't honestly think they do whatever the fans tell them do you?

No, but they let it be decided mainly on the fans' opinions. Understandable, as Blizzard is so unsure of some many things and has the bar set up so high.

but if they do everything the fans want then the game will appeal more to them, and there will be a huge amount of excitement to see those implements in the game.

So this is the new generation of computer games we are experiencing, made solely to the wishes of the fans?

/ this sure puts doubt in the balance. Also betrays the spirit of original starcraft.

No, this is only partly true for sequels. When people have been playing a game for a long time, and there is an announcement there is going to be a sequel to it, the fans should be able to have some input in it so that it satisfies everyone. It's not like Blizz is taking unit models from fans or anything, they are still doing 90% of the work and we are just helping them get that next 10% perfect.

An example: Blizz could not listen to fans an make a super easy UI, making macro easy for everyone with a little bit of skill, or Blizz could listen to the fans and make the UI a bit harder to use so that SC2 still contains that difficulty curve.

Whats the problem with fans providing input for a game they wish to purcahse and hopefully play for a long time?

Thats what i would really like to see answered because i cannot fathom how suggestions from the fans could hurt SC2 assuming it still is blizzard making the game. The only group of people that i have seen constantly object to a number of fan suggestions are the people who would like to see SC2 only designed with the top 1% of league players in mind while ignoring everyone else. And well i personally have a ton i could say about that philosophy but i am going to try and keep it out of this thread.

Getting a bit of topic. This is not a thread about the fans input, but of Blizzard releasing too much info about starcraft.

The way I see it, Blizz had a goal of being able to release almost all the units and buildings, one at a time, until the beta version came out to make sure that they were always generating a consistent amount of hype. Also, they haven't really released anything about the story mode, just some tantalizing hints.

Then don't really need to release units to keep us hyped, I would buy it anyway no matter what, but with the units being released, you know what you will see, and if you didn't, it would keep you more hooked on the game and more exited when playing it, exploring them.

But it is generally a good idea to give the fans information about the name one piece at a time. It keeps people excited about it and gives them new things to talk about.

If Blizzard never released the info about SC 2 and kept it a secret, I wouldn't care about when its coming out or whats on it. And definately wouldn't be on this forum. Actually, if the game was never told to the public, I doubt this forum would even be existing right now.

Well, thats my 2 cents on the issue.

This is an opinion. You aren't backing up this argument whatsoever, so this argument is pointless.

    Edit: At GM_k

What are you talking about? My arguements has been backed up from the start, Blizzard made a good choice releasing information to the public and not to do so would have been a bad idea. Point taken and proved.

Sorry about getting a little off topic in my earlier post but that sorta seemed like where things were going. As for the topic I personally like the idea of blizzard releasing the units early because then I know whats coming my way and my expectation wont get so high that when I first play the game I feel disappointed. This is a phenomenon I have primarily noticed with movies people expect them to be really good and they get disappointed where as people who expect a movie to be bad can get pleasantly surprised. I think by releasing some info blizzard is removing some of the higher expectations but still leaving room for people to be pleasantly surprised.

I think its a good thing to reveal little bits of a game to increase anticipation. I'll use Super Smash Brothers Brawl as an example. Every weekday, they release a little piece of information about the game, like the characters, some of their attacks, some stages and what have you. Every time they released information about a character it makes me want the game so much more. Like the Sonic and King Dedede updates. They are making me drool over the game, and by the time its released, I won't be able to take it anymore and will want it very badly.

So I believe its a good thing to release features of a game, if you keep everything in the dark, who would want it?

i say that blizzard should release about 50-70% of the units, and nothing about the campaign

too late, parts of campaign have already been released. I think 75% of the units should be displayed, but their cost and stats should remain somewhat a secret, so people can't develop excellent strategies before the game comes out for the general public.

Yes, but currently they are releasing every unit. Revealing too much. Thats my complain. And we know the stats from screenshots.

but as we all know, those stats are changing all the time for balancing issues. The best it will do will be to allow people to estimate about where the stats are going to be, even ones found on websites are likely to change before the final product is released.
