Well I always hated to see nucleral launch detected, and seek where is the little red dot.. And sometimes I just wasted my time because my artirelly has already finished the ghost out

What? I LOVED that message! Without it, my base would just suddenly disappear.

I loved that message. It was fun/annoying to play find-the-dot-on-the-map before my base turned into hell's gateway.

Poor red, now that is just plain annoying. It's usually fairly easy to find them if you have a different color, but red...

Im sure this is sorta off topic but it holds a great place in my starcraft expierence. I heard the infamous Nuclear Launch Detected, I only had 1 base and 1 main oponent so the area I needed to look over was quite small. (I am the protoss btw) I couldnt find it anywhere but it had only destroyed a smaller number of soldiers so I was lucky. After the game was over I asked my oponent where he targeted the nuke and his response was, "Remember your Dark Archons?" Suffice to say I felt like a noob after that.

As for the original topic I like the idea of units firing from the fog of war not being revealed.

I completely forgot about this thread.

I think firing while hidden will hurt the zerg more than help them. Most of their ground units are melee (zergling, baneling, roach, ultralist, queen). These units will be at the mercy of any smart player with long distance weapons like tanks.

What benefit the zerg ranged units (hydralisk, lurker) get is pretty much 0. The hydra was too small of a range to be able to stay in the fog-of-war and still attack. The lurker is burrowed to attack, not being visible anyway, so they would be unseen wether they are in the fog or not.

For air units (mutalisk, corrupter, swarm guardian), the benefit is slightly greater. The mutas are able to hide over cliffs, which would allow some to attack without being visible. The corrupter gains no benefits from which since it has only medium range and only attacks air units, most of which have equal or greater range. The benefit the swarm guardian gets will depend on its attack range. If it is long, firing from cliffs or chokes would prove effecting since they would be out of site and range.

I also like the idea of units firing from the fog of war not being revealed. It adds a whole new element to the game.

Indeed. I would hate taking the time to get into the perfect sieging position or something only to be revealed.

ok it may be unbalanced for a map whit a ramp to its natural expand for example python. you cant get up a ramp/attack the natural if there is alot of ranged units in the highground you just cant attack. unbalanced?

The solution is simply to get an air unit involved to spot for you. If you're Zerg, Overlords are plentiful, if you're Terran, a floating structure can work, or Scanner Sweep, if you're Protoss, Observers or Phase Prisms can do the trick.

Actually, in SC2, ramps are a much less viable way of choking off the enemy... cliff-jumping units and the new rapid-transport mechanics (Warp-in, Drop Pod, Nydus Worm) will make it really tough to stay cozy with just a choked ramp.

I doubt that it would have any real impact on gameplay, good players scout, thus they should have units capable of scouting, and in turn would find your tank soon enough anyways.
