    I read your post fox.  You make a very good point about the detection only showing up on your screen where you're looking.  To make it better it should appear on your minimap as well.  If it appears on the minimap then it would be extremely useful.  Plus like I said, you would have to line them outside your base to give much broader coverage.  Further, they will be more useful against ground forces than against air since ground units have inherantly less mobility and thus one will be able to place sensors strategically to cover bottlenecks and such.  The enemy can't avoid a sensor if their only path goes through its detection field.  If it proves to be less than useful, there are a lot of ways they could alter the sensor to make it moe useful.  However, now that fox mentions it, its biggest improvement needs to be that you can see the detection on the minimap.  If they do this, a good player who keeps a close eye on the minimap will be able to use the sensor effectively.

    First off thank you so much quanta like the only one to have read my post. Now I dont remember but isnt there a upgrade for the sensor tower that makes it the sensor dome or the radar tower or something like that, and if there is than that could be what makes it see on the minimap. Sorry I cant think of more but I'm very very distracted by the tv right now

    @ ssjfox - The upgrade from Sensor to Radar Tower shown at BlizzCon appears to be gone. There is no mention of it in the lore on the website and such an upgrade would definitely be talked about.

    PS - I also read your post! ;D

    theory on zerg detecting sensor towers

    since the tower emits a wave of energy that when it hits a certain target it bounces back to the tower,
    the overlord or the cerebrate or overmind or lair or anything that senses the area, detects those waves and somehow senses the location of the tower since they have superior mental abilities

    sensor tower do not pulsate waves, radar tower do that. Sensors are transducer, or other words they "feel" the target. And according to Starcraft2.com, the sensor tower in SC2 detect thermal, electromagnetic, seismic (ground vibration) and Doppler (measure the radial velocity of target wave).

    So my theory on how the zerg detects is the sensor tower: Zergs communicate with antenna, so they send out some sort of communicational wave to other zergs. Since the sensor tower picks up waves, Zergs can "communicate" with the tower, thus they can detect the sensor tower

    Hey, it's the HTML expert here saying...

    "Heres the codes for the movies."

    Sorry about <script> but i don't have firefox on this computer...

    Code:
    <script type="text/javascript">
    		var flashId="slideshow2";
    		printFlash("slideshow2", "[url]http://us.media.blizzard.com/starcraft2/flash/global/movieplayer_external.swf"[/url], "transparent", "", "", "333", "247", "autohigh", "/", "&shadow_glow=50&flv_file=http://us.media.blizzard.com/starcraft2/movies/terran/terran_sensortower_action.flv&thumb_file=/images/flash/movies/terran_sensortower_action.jpg", "<img src='images/noflash-sensortoweraction1.jpg' />")
    		</script>
    Try add them and make sure HTML is on! If it doesn't work, it doesn't matter, i'll get the real code to work asap :p

    I have no way of backing this up. But if you look at that one footage of the Red terrans attacking the blue barracks, I'm assuming that those add-on are low tier, thus their build time are relatively fast. In the video, the bottom/left barrack started building the add-on for a good 5-6sec thus the hp should be at least between 35-50hp. And judging by the tanks formation when they attack the buildings, the first shot was fired from a single tank and it manage to completely destroy the add-on. Thus i conclude that Siege Tank's main cannon do more than 30 damage. If i have to take a guess, it around 45-50 damage points

    Yes, according to Blizzcon data (aka. old by now) Siege tanks in normal mode do 15+15 (against armored) damage in Tank mode.

    I would not mind that i had to upgrade the sensor tower, from just being able to see cloaked units, to also showing a warning of incoming units in the fog of war.
    And your right... the sige tanks looks like they are shooting faster, but in the demo show of protoss they don't shoot as fast as in that video, so i think they are running it a bit faster than the normal speed

    Welcome to the forums, Themacman. I also liked the idea of upgrading the tower from simple detection to forewarning.

    I really did like Sensor tower info and way it spots incoming enemy movements is pretty damn neat...

    Suddenly you see hundres of red signals swarming on fog of war barely out of sight... are there army of zerglings? or zealots? or mayby even immortals?

    All effects looked damn nice and am I delusional here but does game look even better than few months ago?

    Anyway I really appreciated this info, even though it was 'only' a building it was nice info and I will definetly be using sensor towers alot when I finally get my hands of SC2 ;)
