Yeah, maybe they're just there for balance. Just because it has a jetpack to hover doesn't eman it won't fall over.
Also, @paragon, after seeing the SCV you posted, I MUCH prefer the one Blizzard has. The one you posted doesn't look like it would be able to move its arms at all. The feet look like bent spanners, the rest just looks like a can with some fancy stuff glued to it. Much prefer Blizzards one.

Blizzard's SCV sure looks more mobile than PR's,but on the other hand,PR's SCV looks much better.if only they could find a balance between those two models...

I agree that the fusion cutter is much better than the drill, but I also agree that the SC1/PR SCV is too stiff. I mean, the SC2 SCV is stiff as well, but it isn't as obvious.

Then there's the problem that both would be very difficult to pick out from other units in battle. This was an annoying problem at BlizzCon, with all of the explosions and the fact that the units and structures had the same type of chunkiness to them, you pretty much lose your SCVs until the smoke clears.

Thats a nice pic paragon. I think most people agree the old SCV had originality in its design. This new SCV seems almost like another infantry unit, its small and blocky and looks like it was created completely without any inspiration on the part of the designers. I mean, they've put a damn drill instead of fusion cutter, wheres the originality in that? How is this supposed to give off an impression of a serious sci-fi universe? I hope Blizz listens to the community on this one like he did with the siege tanks.

I'm not saying that people can't post what they think, I'm saying that they shouldn't be so harsh on what Blizzard decides to do. Everyone just had a huge whine about the old Siege Tank (which did actually look kind of odd), the Cobra, the Viking, and all of the names that Blizzard has chosen for them. And now it's the SCV. I accept that people might not like the design, but they do NOT have to say stuff like... i hate the new scv model or it looks like crap. Why can't people just leave constructive criticisms instead of just being rude. A lot of effort has gone into StarCraft2, so people should stop just complaining about anything that doesn't go their way.
I'm not saying that they can't disagree, I'm saying that they shouldn't just leave pointless and rude posts.

I think the new SCV looks just fine.

In my mind it needs the legs to roll on. Do they really hover or just use the jets to propel forward?

Ok, the fusion cutter was better. Although I would be down with some sort of multi-tool look. Kind of like those double headed screw driver/drills you may have seen on a late night infomercial.

Plain and flat looking? Why stare at your peons when you have badass battle ready units on the field...doing battle in the field!
Phrases like "poly count" and "system requirments" come to mind as well.

Room for improvement yes, horrible no.

IMO the project revaluation SCV looks to be the 100% ShitCV. Nice lighting and texture work. Model itself is boring, nonsensical, and all around ugly.

I just hope the voice actor from SC1 is still alive and on Blizzard's payroll.
"I can't build here, theres something in the way."
    That's nostalgic for me.

I think that there should be a poll on whether it should be remodeled or not. And don't have 3 options, like: No it shouldn't, Yes but only minor changes, and, Yes needs a complete redo. It should just have the 2 options, yes and no. Too many polls get ruined by splitting one of the votes. That's basically how Australia didn't become a republic in 1999, because the vote for becoming a republic, was split (just a handy piece of information).

Then make one. You can even pick the choices.

EDIT: Never mind, there all ready is one. One with 3 choices.....erm...better luck next time?
I agree to a degree though. Some split choice polls are annoying, thus I don't vote.

I meant that a poll should be added to this thread. Where is the 3 choice one? That's what I like about about Australia. People have to vote, so the whole nation is concerned with who becomes the new Prime Minister. In USA, because not everyone has to vote, it is only really the passionate or more extremist people who vote, meaning that it is very possible for a small minority to control the nation.

You're right there isn't one. That definitely says Thor poll...I should go to sleep or something.

This so off topic but I actually don't like the idea of everyone having a right to vote. Too many people in America can't think for themselves and side with political parties instead of candidates. There are those easily fooled or those who follow party lines without knowing a damn thing about a candidates political background or current platform.

Remember kids, the more times you say "lower taxes", "combat terrorism", and "God bless the troops" the more votes you get. Doesn't matter if its GoP or Dem. Both parties consist of wealthy politicians and staggering numbers of closed minded working class shits that have nothing better to worry about than if it's a donkey or elephant in the oval office. You would think after such a hugely unpopular Republican president people on both sides would smarten up a bit, consider that you vote for a person not a party...I'm ranting.
Back to my original point, people should have to take a test about basic policies that each candidate supports. Generating a fair test would not be easy, no. Would it be an improvement to the two party system? Dear God yes!

BTW how does Australia enforce that?

Not sure what you mean by the question... Could you reword it please?
Also, on the topic of your little rant. I find that people in Australia, who have to vote, would have a greater interest in politics than those who don't. If you don't have to vote then, to me, the vote would seem less important that if you did. As a result it might be easier to sway peoples votes, because they don't have a large interest in the policies and would just like a quick solution to terrorism (which is never going to happen). However if you have to vote, I reckon that people would be forced to think about the new policies more, and as a result, saying stuff like, lower taxes and combat terrorism, won't be as effective. I don't think I explained that very well, just ask if you have questions about it. Also, keep in mind that I am only a teenager so I do not know a lot about politics, but I do know enough to get by. Also, I believe that Australia should become a republic instead of continuing to follow the Queen. I would prefer it if we became a minimalist republic over a presidential republic, because that would keep the same kind of governing style that we have at the moment, and the only difference would bet hat we don't follow the Queen.

Back to the topic for a bit... I don't see why people think that the SCV needs to be some kind of buff robot. It is only a worker unit. The clamp and drill are just as effective as the fusion cutter. Maybe not as good at fighting as the cutter, but SCV's were never meant to fight. The SCV looks great at the moment, it should remain this way.

I fully disagree that forcing people to vote will make then anymore considerate of their choices or anymore aware of policies; at least in the USA. Besides just because someone has to do something doesn't mean they aren't gonna half ass it.
Bush has dragged the Republican party through mud; mud that might actually just be shit, it is obvious what would happen the next election if every American had to vote. The Democratic candidate would win simply because he/she is not a Republican. People think in very simple black or white ways like that. That very well may happen now anyways.
I have a strong feeling this is gonna be one of those agree to disagree sorts of things.

To rephrase my question: How does Australia get all of its citizens to vote? Is there a penalty if you don't vote? How do they track down everyone who is supposed to vote?

    Topic:
I think if any 2 things would be changed its
    1) Altering the drill as I said before or just throwing the fusion cutter back in.
    2) Dirty it up a bit. Throw some mud rust or rivets on there. The current paint job does make it look a little bit like a toy car.

Still say it doesn't need to be that flashy a unit. Looks OK in the gameplay demo doesn't it?

I think that because Australians have to vote, and have always had to vote, that overall Australian citizens are more interested in their country's politics than other countries were voting is not compulsory. Just suddenly changing from not having to vote to having to vote wouldn't work because these voters do not have that same interest as other voters who have always voted. Also, why would Americans want a Democratic President over a Republican President? Wouldn't it just depend on their policies, etc? Australians, once they have turned 18, all have to enroll for the next election (I'm not sure how this is monitored). Then when the time comes to vote, they will go to their local voting place (in my area it is at the local school), get their name marked off the enrollment list, and then cast their vote. The penalty for not voting, unless you have a reasonable excuse, is a fine, if you don't pay the fine then you can be taken to court.

I like the idea of a drill instead of a fusion cutter, the fusion cutter was just so generic. Drills and augers and stuff are actually used in construction and excavation, and the clamp would be much more effective than that 3 pronged claw of the other SCV that was posted. The clamp has the ability to open to the length of that piece it's mounted on, but the claw has a much more limited grip.

hehe I like the claw. it reminds me of that loader from Aliens (forget which one exactly) They should bring back the fusion cutter though. the rest looks ok but if they can make it look better I'm all for it.

Ahh this looks like something you'd get a child for christmas.

The old SCV had a minimum of bright "player-colour" and had more a gun-metal body to it. SC2 SCV looks like it might transform into a small radio or something.
The tools at the end of the arms arn't the main detracting feature..as it's probably the twin shoulder-intake thingies that protrude out for no reason combined with the overly loud-colouring.

@ WuHT. Please read the all posts before posting your own opinion. You said:
But this had already been pointed out by Flesh:
And was already addressed by me:
The vents on the shoulders are obviously for either exhaust or cooling. They are more likely cooling because they point forwards, and I doubt that the SCV would have been designed to project its fumes and exhaust forwards.
However I do agree with you when you say that the unit is a bit bright. It could have some more metal showing, or maybe the existing color, especially on the tips of the cooling vents, base of the legs and arms (where the color is at its brightest) could be made a bit more dull.

LOL! I'd just like to point out something. when you said:
The drill on the one hand would be around half as big as a normal person, so you can't really refer to it as a pussy ass drill, and the three claws instead of two little bars? The claws are puny! They're hardly even the size of its wrist!

I didn't really care wtf are they used for, the point was they look lame. Legs are redundant, the drill is silly and like WuHT sadi, the body looks like its gonna transform into a small radio. Generally, this new SCV design makes the unit look less serious, more like a toy. And those over-saturated colors aren't helping either.

Oh, and ItzaHexGor I'd love to see you try to explain how will the new SCV's drill be used to construct buildings.

@ Itzahexgor : Alright. I'm not allowed to post anything if it has been said before ? And somehow you feel like you are the one who has to tell me that ? If it's been said before then you should know that it's a common feeling and one that is worth repeating. If you want someone else to get credit for having an earlier post or w/e, then thats a whole other matter. Now i dont exactly see a mod tag under your profile so are u just trying to mess with me ?

If u actually read what Flesh and I typed instead of getting excited about retorting me, you'd realize that Flesh "points out" that he doenst see the functional purpose of the shoulder-intakes..while my point is I dont see why it has to be so prominent. It's the protrusion i find that is having "no reason". If it's not the first thing you notice about the SCV, it's definately the second.
