I would guess the are under pretty heavy load...for a company that says "Itll be ready when its ready"...

Their forums are not even functional.

I liked SC1, WC1-2-3 and Diablo1-2, so I think Blizzard knows how to make games. Those previous Blizzard products had glitches, but they at least launched after I bought them. This non-launching SC2 is a new animal here. Stereotype, even the good kind, is not a good thing. I used to think Blizzard products are good. Now there goes that stereotype. A non-launching game falls short of goodness, no matter how you look at the facts here.

There is some rumor that if you keep changing your battlenet password, you may get the game to launch after 7 or 8 tries. Maybe it's worth a try.

It may turn out that the SC2 problem is in battlenet. If that's true, then those of you who got the game going in the first place may see it go down later. So don't rush to Blizzard's defense too soon.

OP, what you are describing isn't deceptive marketing. Your thread title, on the other hand, is deceptive and I feel like you owe me a full refund for the time I invested in opening and reading it. I charge $200 an hour. Please provide me a billing address.

Wait, what? It's Blizzard's product, they can do whatever they want. You are just given the opportunity to see it for some money.

    @bakushi:
The game actually includes an Offline-Mode. After starting the game, it tries to connect to battle.net and if this fails it will offer you to play offline. (I think your singleplayer achievements will be transferred to b.net later, or they might be lost - dunno.)

This should solve your problem, does it?

Otherwise, if the whole game program does not launch after doubleclicking the icon, you must be experiencing a different problem. Since the game launches perfectly for several other players, it is more likely that your PC causes the problem and not the game. Have you checked your firewall settings? Did you try to turn all background processes (anti-virus, Skype, ICQ, whatever) off?

Well according to a Blizzard rep:

Everything Single player will work in offline mode. Even Vs the AI. The only thing is you can get no achievements in offline mode. You can even save your campaign progress in offline mode. You just get no achievements for finishing the missions in single player.

You just need the net to register your game once. It says it on the box. So you know it before you buy it.

I have the box right next to me and the fine print that states you need a net connect is in the lower right. It also mentions you need a battlenet account.

I agree with the author that there is no justification to have a net connection for single player. Nor is their a justification to have a net connection for acheivements. The only thing you should have to have a need connection for is to play with other people (with the internet). Why is Blizzard doing it like this?

Ok...first of all, I had a lot of problems with the game when i first got it, took me roughly 8 hours to figure it out to get it up and running, but i did. And you can play the game when not online. there is "offline" and "guest" mode. So far from all your posts the only thing i get from them(being that I also work in a customer based environment) is that all you are trying to do is complain and whine and moan so you can get something for nothing. All blizzard will tell you to do is screw off, they have 10's of millions of satisfied customers, you mean nothing to them. And if you think they haven't covered their bases for customers like you, you are sadly mistaken. Blizzard is very smart for making it so you have to connect to battle.net to play the game, prevents people from just stealing it. So if you: A: ) Dont have internet B: ) Didnt read the fine print when you bought the game and C: ) Havent moved into the New Age, then that sir...is your fault. You know its like buying a first model car. You have to go into it expecting bumps and potholes along the way until they work everything out. If you wanted a solid "no problem game", then you should have waited to buy it. So in simation please take blizzard to court for your measly 60 dollars, i would love to look up the case and laugh my balls off at you when you lose miserably.

    As a side note:

After removing the LAN feature, you do HAVE to buy the game if you want to play multi.
This means that all this draconian requirements (I'm also speaking about Ubisoft, EA etc) are pointless.

The single player game was hacked within hours so all this permanent internet connection etc it's useless as a piracy counter.

    Just my thoughts guys.

I don't see anyone with those hacked copies enjoying multiplier, do you? I am an adult, I can pay money for my own software now.

:D That is what I said. You need to buy the game to play multiplayer.
