I know what he means, that system exists on a WC3 custom map (notd-AM). Usually turned off since it often is counterproductive, loosing control over a unit is worse than lost HP.

    Okay, Hypothetical:

You have two cobras. You send them using the "attack move" to an enemy base. En route, they encounter a group of hydralisks that are blocking the route they were taking. Instead of stopping and firing at the Hydralisks, the Cobras will fire and then move from side to side at their maximum range while firing. If the Hydralisks move closer, the Cobras will take fire until they can again withdraw to their maximum range and continue firing while moving.

Most units will fire from their maximum range and then hold that position until killed or ordered to move. The Cobra, having this new mechanic, would better utilize its ability by always, ALWAYS, ALWAYS firing from its maximum range.

Do you see what I mean now? It's not going to micro for you, but the unit will ALWAYS be shooting from its maximum range because it can move while firing.

No offense, but that sounds exactly like cobra micromanaging itself Jon.  I don't really like the idea of a unit having a life of its own.  I also think each player should have to rely on manual micro to maximize the usefulness of the cobra or any other unit.  IMO, it is best for players to have full control of their units at all times in SC.

Here's what I think should/would be the case with cobra attack-move.  You issue attack-move, the cobra stops to engage any enemy units it encounters en route and starts firing from maximum range.  Doesn't do a thing besides sit there and shoot once per attack cycle(cooldown), and continues on its way to the destination once the threat is eliminated.  This is the same as any other unit.

Now if you send the same cobra with the "move" command, the cobra's top priority is to make it to that destination.  Again, just like any other unit.  However, because the cobra can shoot on the move, it will still fire at any enemy units on the way, but only while continuing to move along the path toward its final destination.  So if you issue "move" and it runs into some hydras, pathing algorithm kicks in and it will find its way around and still try to end up at where you clicked without ever stopping.  But as long as there are enemy units in range, its turret will turn to fire at them, independent of the vehicle's direction of movement.

I suspect that probably what's the case anyway, and really all we need with the cobra.

Just telling it like it is.

But indirectly, this also serve as payback for all the times that I got rick roll'd by you.  I think I fell for it as many times as you pulled one.

"Hmmm, what could this little link be..."  *clicks like a gullible dumbass* "D'OH!"

    ROFLMAO... touche.

    I will reap more retribution!

But seriously, I figured it would be a nice addition to the Terran arsenal. The only reason I suggested it was that I thought it might counter the units slow-assness a little bit.
