I believe that there is no way in hell that Sc2 will be released by November,it might in December, but taking into consideration Blizzard's release date track record it seems slim to none. However, December and Q1-2 of next year seems likely.

The only difference between me and you, is that I am optimistic about an early release, and your are a pessimist. Somewhere inbetween our predictions lurks the truth. And I was one of the hopeless true believers that thought SC2 would be released in 2007.

2007... lol seems so long ago.

I'm not too optimistic about this, it's far from confirmation and really, it all depends on the beta that we have a clearer release date for anyway.

I guess I can wait. Been on this site for over 1.5 years and still check up on it when i can, though some are begining to pass my post count who hadn't done so before.

lol, anybody remember the 'guess the release date' item people got way back when when sc2forums was still the only admin, and the winner would get a free copy of SC2? I think I guessed November of last year XD

  6. I'm not at all a pessimist. I think a 2009 release is quite optimistic in and of itself. Maybe what you meant to say was a 'realist". The point is, is that it's always likely for StarCraft 2 to have a disastrous beta. StarCraft 2 is under much more pressure than the original and people already have an idea of what it should be and have unbelievably high expecations for how great it should be. StarCraft didn't have to deal with that and they still completely restarted development. All they had to live up to was WarCraft 2. And, WarCraft 2, though great for its time, is not as hard to live up to as the original StarCraft; especially, given the hardcore following StarCraft has. And, even ignoring the fact that this time around people want the sequel to be pretty damn identical to the original.

Blizzard is basically making a sequel to Chess when so many people don't want it to be changed and think the original Chess is perfect in every way and cannot be nor should be changed at all. So, despite what you say, it's still very possible that the game could go back into development. There are so many UI changes and game play mechanics that many, many people absolutely HATE.

What if they get into beta and most of the people in the beta don't like these new mechanics? Do you honestly think they're going to release a game that they feel everyone will hate? Just by reading comments on the various forums alone, I can tell it's already likely that the people that get into the beta won't like many of the mechanics. And, since Blizzard is placing so much on the beta testers it's ALWAYS possible they'll want to go back into development. I think it's HIGHLY unlikely but it's still possible and probably more likely than in past Blizzard games. And, unfortunately, it has happened before.

I feel I am quite the optimist just to believe the beta will start this summer and that the game will be released in 2009 given these facts.

    re

We can always hope for an end of the year release. Blizzard has said it will release a new game this year. And plans on releasing new ones every year.

    :DHi everybody

Its impresive how people own minds tricks them (includes miself into it) and it apparently looks the same in all forums.

Blizzard just stated that they might release on the end of the year, probably due to pressure.
And everybody is changing the "probable" for a "more probable" XD

I have expected SC2 since 2007 anouncement and everyone can tell that it didnt. I'm starting to believe in the marketing dude who said Blizzard used to release their games at a minimum of 2 years after announcements.

  10. Who was it in this topic that said it would "for sure" be out in 2009? I can't see where anyone said that.

Sorry, thats sort of a metafore that indicates many people are getting hope for a winter release on this year. I dont want to be negative, and I am waiting for SC 2 for 2 years as many others. Its just that I care for the quality and gameplay of it.

Blizzard should not start being the kind company that makes a deathline in the realease of their games, and neither start with SC2, the secuel to the best RTS of all times (considered this way by many people and not by some people that care for graphics and "eye candies")

I'll rather stand for the push of SC 2 for late spring or even summer, than the early release on Christmas

And just as you said before, there are many but many gameplay issues that people dont like, even units (Thor) This might extend the time of release by at least 2 months

The fact remains that we pretty much know that it will be out somewhere near the end of 2009 but I think we should be focused on seeing the beta because that's due in a month or 2 (ya its a bold statement but oh well).

  14. They haven't set a deadline, though. They've only made public when they think they'll finish. Basically, they feel that the game is far along enough to go into beta so that means the final release is a few months after. If more time is needed they will take it.

I think a lot of the things that are in SC2 now will be really switched around and changed during and after the Beta. So it will take them a few months to polish it just right after the Beta closes. I also think that they will most likely (I am about 80% sure) by the end of this year. And this does count as from Blizzard so it should be counted as official. I was talking to the manager and one of my personal friends at Game Stop and Blizzard told them to expect it on November. I am not saying it is a for sure date but it was Blizzard's projected release date to the video game selling company.

There won't be "months" of work after the beta. Things get changed during the beta.

When Reign of Chaos' beta ended, the game was out less than a month later.

  17. I'm pretty sure everyone meant "months after the beta starts".

Well they made World of Warcraft. Then two expansions for it.

Oh and there's that Starcraft 2 game.

    Annnnd Diablo 3.

  20. They've been quite busy since WarCraft 3, actually. Maybe you've heard of a little game called WoW and maybe you didn't know that Diablo 3 and StarCraft 2 have been in development since about when WarCraft 3 was released.
