Even if there was a press/gamer signup what does that even mean? They've already had signups and we've already submitted users for beta keys...

Those signups clearly didn't mean the beta was imminent...

Oh, that's not what they're hinting that. They're hinting at being given information by Blizzard that the beta will start in February and most likely shortly after the conference call.

    Sorry for the confusion.

I've not heard any information to that effect.

Last time that happened I'm pretty sure it DID represent a legitimate progress towards beta, but then the beta was delayed so obviously it didn't matter anymore. The beta opt-ins and press sign-ups last year were all scheduled around a "beta in summer" time line.

I've been following that thread since the beginning and I haven't really seen anything hinting at that. At best, the hints have been very vague "beta is close" teasers that could mean anything.

Other random posters without any special information are making uninformed guess about Feb. 11th based on the 1000 day thing and the conference call.

    The Feb. 11 Speculation
Honestly, both the conference call and the 1000 day anniversary are completely coincidental. Here's my take on both events:

Conference calls occur every three months and serve no special purpose for announcements. They do sometimes have new information about a game, but that's just a bonus and not the purpose of the conference. If the beta is very close to ready at the time of the conference, they will probably update us, but don't expect any awesome announcements like it's Blizzcon. This conference is for investors, not gamers!

I've never seen anyone celebrate a "1000 day anniversary" either, and I especially would never expect a corporation to intentionally schedule a release around it. No one would have ever noticed it was 1000 days if it wasn't for the "1000" hint given in the SClegacy thread

    The Good News:
Nevertheless, there is a bit of cause for excitement, in my opinion. I do believe the new press sign-ups represent progress, and the beta has to come out before the end of February if SC2 is going to have it's 4-6 month beta (as estimated by Browder) and still meet the Q2 schedule. On the other hand, none of this probably matters to you if you expect Blizzard to just keep delaying :)

I'm adjusting my expectations concerning the press conference. From what I gather the conference is being held mainly for investors, therefore I expect the system requirements for running SC2 will be announced.

These press conferences have been used before to drop beta news as a primary purpose of these conferences is to give the stock holders good news (or gracefully drop BAD news) so that they'll hold on to their stock or buy more. That's the primary purpose. Now, consider that this time, it's being broadcasted over the internet so it must be bigger news than they've given in the past. Why would they broadcast it if it wasn't something that we needed a visual of that isn't great news to us? They would just leave us a company line like they always do confirming or denying beta. But, no, this time they're going to do something big and I'd be willing to bet it's something that's going to have a major effect on stocks .. and to me that could only be beta news since they have other outlets for hyping other games and have nothig of note to show for now that couldn't wait for GDC/E3. The beta might not start immediately but they should give us a date.

@rcp181: Spychi has told me specifically in PMs (and I assume in threads as well) that he has information which leads him to believe that the beta will be announced in February. But, then, again .. this IS Spychi. As for Gifted, there isn't anything other than a beta that would warrant such actions. Either he has beta news or he's one of the most effective trolls on SCLegacy.

The fact that the conference is streaming may be a sign of something good, or it may just be their next preferred step in making their conferences more easily accessible. It's hard to say whether it's coincidence or not >.< I wish I knew.

We shouldn't need Spychi or any other inside to tell us that beta is in February considering the beta and release time frame Blizzard has already given us. It's still encouraging to hear that though, since it should be a sign of no delays :)

As Blizzard continues Starcraft 2 development I believe that the final product will come after some time like 4 months. No need 6 months or more of tests because Blizzard makes the full job. Yes, with the time they create the box (in all official languages), the authorizations, etc . Developing this game also means that they translate it into all the languages. Not just subtitles, but full version (for the French one). Or they will release the original game and we'll have to wait 1 more month to get the foreign version. As it happened with SC and BW.

Here's something else that could potentially be interesting.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ec1RnWg9EI

At 2:16, it's got a clip of the Blizzard team poppin' bottles and celebrating. "Welcome to StarCraft 2 beta" can be seen on the screen in the back.

Also, this makes it sound like there's a good chance he'll have this episode in the first two episodes.

That deserves its own thread and a spot on the front page.

It was just 1 second in the video (minute 2:16)

    EDIT:
They'd better not finish their bottles of Stella Artois so quickly. INBEV, the company that products the Stella Artois, whose headquarter stands in Leuven, Belgium, is facing for a while some social demonstrations from the workers who produce this beer. Those last ones decided to close the factory, to continue the production but not allow it to leave the factory.
INBEV has now a huge stock of Stella Artois in the factory, and also the Jupiler and Grimbergen.

This is kind of why I've remained on this site and only trusted the info on it. Because so far Jon is the only reliable source of information regarding anything sc2 related.
