I can confirm that I have heard something and that there is a lot more speculation than what is actually occurring. Please don't get your hopes up too high yet as nothing definitive has been released at this time. :D

That's good advice especially considering one of the fan site administrators (scarea.pl) has admitted to lying about certain information. Still, he claims the February beta date is true and Gifted still maintains that he knows something and is dropping hints.

We also have that conference to look forward to :D That's quite promising.

Under a year? Try two years on average :D Also, they've been working on StarCraft 2 for over four years.

StarCraft II was started back in 2003. It's just been announced almost 3 years ago. Of course, I hear Diablo III was in development for a really long time too, but I have no data on that.

IIRC, it was worked on after Diablo 2 but then canceled and restarted in 2005.

I don't know why but I believe no company takes so many time, so many years to develop their games. How many years actually for Starcraft 2 until now ? I am not talking from their official announcement in 2007.
When another company wants to create a game they take 2 or 3 years maximum to devlop it. The average : 2 years.
    Starcraft 2 since 2003 ? 7 years ?!!

Anyway if February is the month where the beta starts I willm be glad. This month is also the one the Lost serie will be broadcasted. The latest and best season.

Yes and you can also say no other company has such worldwide success with their games they are being played/modded/patched 10+ years after they are released. So maybe Blizzard's really extended time they take to make their games pays off in the end.

One detail not to be forgotten : more Blizzard takes its time to finalize Starcraft 2, more the latest technologies of visual effects become outdated. Since 2007, how much the technology has evolved ?

Concerning the rumors. I've seen no evidence whatsoever that this pro gamers and journalist beta thingie has actually started? Or am I mistaken?

I really wouldn't worry about outdated technology, we're still playing SC1 right? Consider how much outdated the technology used for that game is...it's still a great game.

If the SP of SC2 could be made with the SC1 map editor (that is, with SC1 graphics etc.) I would still buy it.

    Please do not double post.

No problem, I shall buy Starcraft 2. I have been a fan for a very long time. I am one of the oldest fans on Earth.
Well about the beta testers I haven't seen any of you answering to me : I asked what are the options that Blizzard will use to select their beta testers, among those Blizzard will chose (or has already chosen) who are "pro gamers".
I want to be a tester. How do I do ? I won the "I love SC" contest, got a T-shirt. Must I send a photo of me wearing this t-shirt to Blizzard ? This t-shirt is XXL size and I wanted a M size. I can enter twice in mine. LOL
Once Blizzard will see a real fan maybe they will send me a beta key.

Concerning 'how beta players are chosen'. As far as I know:

    - Journalist and pro-gamer beta has apparently started. You are selected for this beta if you are either a games journalist for a well known medium or if you are in the top 20 best players of StarCraft and Warcraft 3 in the world. I think it's safe to say you will not be selected for this pre-beta.

    - The 'real' ('closed-public') beta will start in North America. People who have opted in will get chosen randomly. This beta will spread in time to SA, Asia and (probably lastly) Europe. The chances of you being chosen are probably somewhere near 1 in 100,000 (probably your chances are even smaller than that).

    - If you have a beta key you will automatically be able to participate in the beta once it has started.

I haven't even subscribed for the beta key. Was there a subscribtion ? Haven't seen it.
Well anyway I know my chance to be selected is very low :(

You can still opt-in for the beta. Read more here.

Can you confirm that it's SC2 related? It would be a real joke if they announce the friends and family beta for Cataclysm on the press conference.

A sad but true fact. I may be wrong, but isn't that what happened with StarCraft Ghost? It became outdated before it was even finished?

Though if you look at RTSs, and the type of RTS SC is and will be (not the kind with Squads and individual ammo and cover and such) there isn't much that could outdate SC2. What I mean is StarCraft is about individual units and abilities and so it plays that way. Aside from graphics and physics and I don't think SC2 have anything that would become outdated because it is designed to play a certain way.
    That make sense?

    I wish they just...wouldn't...

Technology hasn't evolved much from 2007 :D No game can beat Crysis graphically even still. In console land, yes, games like Uncharted 2 and Killzone 2 did push the bar.

However, none of this should matter when it comes to gimping the overall gameplay. StarCraft II will be remembered for it's gameplay; not it's graphics.

It is StarCraft 2 related. I'll let you know more when we know more. And frankly it's not that earth shattering.

Have you confirmed it's the same thing as what Gifted is hinting about? He seems to think it's pretty important.
