Seriously why can't they just give all infantry except ghosts jet packs or flying abilities and whatnot. It would make way more sense. Except maybe it will costs more.. Why would you make a unit similar to a marine that uses pistols instead of a rifle with a jet pack only..
if they gave all terran infantry jetpacks that would be imba... think about it a marine (the first attacking unit built) can rush your base at any point in your base such as the back, front or sides....second what would be the point of land if everyone is hovering lol.. .....there is a reason why reapers have jetpacks and are terribly weak. ..... reapers are such a great idea you can easily gain entrance to a base disrupt economy but you are taking a gamble of losing money by losing those units fast ...if stronger units were able to do the same it would be game over for the one being attacked if they were harder to get rid of
Yeah I know that is why some people thought it should've been an upgrade. But I repect everyones judgement and point of view.
yeah maybe that upgrade would work ......but what about drop ships?... if many infantry has jetpacks dropships would be only useful for ghost and tanks ....dunno just a thought
Yeah, I was worried about that too. You see, if marines got jet packs then there would be no poin in drop pods. And I would rather have drop pods over jet packs I guese.
I suggested that Marines have jetpacks a long time ago, but it was ruled out for a number of reasons, and I agree with them. I said it should be an all-around upgrade for infantry, but Marines don't really need it. BUT, the Firebat is automatically eliminated from play after Tier 1 as it is no longer effective because of its limited mobility. Even stimpack can't really save it. They are completely obselete and irrelevant. If they were to add this as an upgrade to ONLY the firebat, it would bring it back into relevance in the later stages of the game and eliminate an unneeded extra unit.
Firebats are good units, the only unit aside from the SCV that can fight against Zerg with Dark Swarm but hey, the REAPERS ROCK!
Best thing would be allow marines to upgrade for Firebat gear. It would give nice versatily to Marines. So if Zerglings can evolve to Banelings if situation needs then perhaps Marines would be able to 'upgrade' with Firebat equippment (wrist flamethrowers and fuel-canisters)
Yeah, good point! But Siege Tanks (siege-mode) are even better. And firebats cannot harm an Ultralisk w/ HP and armor upgrades: their cooldown is too long, and their atks get too reduced. It's only purpose is Zerglings in Dark Swarm. And Banshees can kick ass way better than many firebats now. It has an AoE effect, so bye bye Dark Swarm, even if it's coming back. ;-) I'll still miss the cool lines of firebats, but just like you said, REAPERS ROCK!
Hey, I was thinking, perhaps the Reaper's jump works sort of like the Stalker's blink, but with a slower animation. If that's so, a Reaper wouldn't go to a place that's blocked. And if you jump first, and someone decides to build on it, or raise a bunker that was lowered after the jump was triggered, the one that came after would be blocked. I'm still very curious to see how would a lowered bunker deal with an enemy on top of it, upon being commanded to raise.

They should just make the reaper into Jango Fett with firebat flamethrowers. The gigantic pistols and jetpack are just dumb
how are the pistols dumb? Seriously reapers aren't meant to go around fighting in battles are anything 2 gauss pistols firing at a ridiculous rate and time bombs are more than enough to take out enemy workers. Anyways banshee/tank splash and cruiser plasma torpedoes are more than enough to counter swarm
I agree with brc9210, firebat is no longer needed. It takes a faster rate hiting unit, with new capabilities (jumping obstacles) and new name. In this new environment, the firebat would be left aside. It's good that he left in it's glory, rather than becoming unused.
What about melee units? You can't build SCVs and tell them to kill a bunch of hydralisks in a dark swarm.
you mean supply depot right? and, if its something on it when commanded to raise, it just wont work. its like trying to build a building on top of something.
