AFAIK the Mac requirements are slightly higher than the PC ones. Off the top of my head I remember seeing 4GB or RAM minimum. And that's not mentioning your CPU or your presumably integrated GPU. So I would spend that money on something else if I were you.

    My computer is
    2.8 single core celeron
256mb video memory (some ****ty pci card, geforece 6200 oc I believe)
1gb ram ( there is one single 2gb stick in my PC, but one day windows just started saying I have 1gb so I have no clue what that means)

Now if I install a fresh windows XP on a separate partition and turn off every single service and startup item (that I don't need for starcraft) as well as turn graphics down to bare minimum, will I get a playable speed?

    question on video cards

Im wondering which i should use, ATI Radeon HD4350, or Geforce 7800 GsOC? the Geforce is a few years old, and the radeon came in the desktop i bought less than a year ago. Any suggestions?

    My specs are

AMD 64 3500 2.2 ghz (performance rated at 3.9 what does that mean?)

    2 gb DDR memory

    Nvidia 6150 256 mb

Now according to this website I downloaded I will need to upgrade the grpahics.

Okay but even if I update the card Im not sure how well my pc will run it. My guess is probably not very well.

Gmoney: that's kind of a tough one... the 7800GS is probably still faster than the 4350. It gets pretty tricky comparing high-end old technology with low-end new technology, though. the 4350 is still mostly a "home theater" kind of card, not really made for gaming.

    and teraformer:
the processor and memory should meet the minimum requirements... just watch out for really big games (4v4 or UMS maps), they might stress the processor. video card, definitely upgrade.

Definitely 7800GS. HD4350 is around 6600GT level and obviously, the 7800GS is better.

Thanks but I have a couple of games that my pc exceeds the minimum requirements but the game lags. And thats what Im worried about. Even if I get a better card my pc may still lag. Hate to waste money on a card if it turns out to be for not.

lag is most often due to the video card and video settings, but in an RTS game with lots of units, the CPU has to crunch a lot of numbers as well. your CPU just manages to meet the minimum requirements, but it could still be a source of lag in bigger games that involve more units.

unfortunately, it might be hard for you to upgrade your CPU. i think it's socket 939, but AMD has since moved on to socket AM2+ and AM3 for their current lineup, which means you may as well get a whole new comp if you're going to upgrade.

Was toying with the idea of picking up SC2, but my ghetto-*** laptops processor is only 1.8 Ghz.. I'm not particularly tech savvy, so is that literally unrunable given it's below the recommended min, or do you reckon I'd be able to scrape by? I'd like to be playing, but not if it's completely unviable =(

Yeah, it should. Not on the highest settings but medium's probably doable.
